Percy POV

I sighed as I wiped my hand across the living room window. The warm air from the house mixed with the cold air outside, making the closed window the slightest bit wet.

As always the house smelled of beer, and BO. It was obvious Gabe was here recently, his smell still lingered.

I crinkled my nose as I opened the fridge. It was mostly filled with alcohol, but I eventually found an ice pack. I placed it on my head, where a lovely fabulous new scar was probably forming.

Guess who did that, surprise surprise!

The rain had been pouring non stop for days. And I have been stuck in this shit household, for 3 days. Yay me!

The sound of an old, beat up van pulling into the driveway broke the eerie silence that surrounded me.

I inhaled sharply, and raced to my room. After pulling on a coat and some boots, I slipped out the window, right before I heard the sound of big, drunk, stupid, oafs filling into the apartment.

We had a ground floor apartment, so it has always been easy for me to sneak out.

As I shut the window behind me, the cold, damp air surrounds me, sending chills down my spine.

My room led out into an alley way in the middle of the city. The busy atmosphere of the city center, did not falter, even in extreme weather.

I sighed and shoved my hands into my pockets. The rain soaked my hair causing it to stick onto my forehead.

It's times like these when I miss my mom. Sally Jackson, loving mother, and caring friend. My mom died in a freak car accident 4 years ago. I was only 12, I remember that day so vividly.

The day was normal so far, mom was off at work, and back then Gabe never hurt me, he just always hated me. Around, 5:00, was always the normal time that my mom got home from her job. When I heard the doorbell, I opened the door expecting to see my mom with open arms waiting for me to jump into them. But instead I found an old NYC police officer, explaining to me that my mother died on her way back from work.

That was the worst day of my entire life. I can still feel the pain and dread hanging on my shoulders.

As I pushed down the busy streets of the city, a tear escaped, and rolled down my cheek. Luckily no one could tell. As far as they new it was just another raindrop.
