Tony's repulser beam ripped through my side, and I flew back into the wall, hitting my head against the concrete. Cap and Tony started to yell at each other, not even checking to see if I was alright. The room was spinning, and my bison blurred. Someone scooped me up and started running. I was sure that it had been James.
"Stay with me, sis" he said.
I groaned. My whole body was on fire, and everything ached.
"T'Challa" he yelled. The Black Panther came running over.
"She needs help" James said to the king. T'Challa led James to his jet without a single work.
They set me down, and James crouched down next to me.
"We're going to get you fixed up" he said quietly "it's okay to pass out".
That's exactly what I did.
(James's P.O.V.)
It was my first time flying a jet for a long distance without been unconscious. Will was dying behind me, and my father was probably going to kill Tony.
T'Challa was piloting the aircraft. I walked back to check on Will. She looked peaceful when she was asleep. I brushed her hair out of her face. At least her wound wasn't bleeding. It had almost instantly cauterized. I felt her forehead. She felt way warmer than usual, and the fire running through her veins probably didn't help that.
I dug around for a cloth or tarp to put ice in. I found a jacket and used my powers to make an ice pack. Then I put it on Will's wound.
She hissed when the cold made contact with the injury.
"Sorry, sis, but I'm trying the best I can" I whispered. It never ceased to amaze me how Will could survive almost every situation. She'd survived beatings for thirteen years, being stabbed, shot, whipped, several kidnappings, and she hadn't given up on life yet.
I used to hate her guts for being the chosen one, but I saw that being the chosen one was terrible. Her life had been a disaster. If I had been the chosen one, I would be in her shoes right now, and she hadn't seen the sun until a year ago.
"Thanks for not killing me on the battlefield earlier" I laughed quietly to myself. I had seen in her eyes that she would have killed me if I had made a wrong move. Her threats had never been empty.
"We need get her to Wakanda" T'Challa stated.
"She can't go there. She needs to be in New York" I said "that's her home".
"She's strong. I feel sorry for hurting her earlier".
"Well you added to her collection of scars, that's for sure" I mumbled.
"She's Ragnarok, isn't she" he asked quietly. I nodded.
"She's been through a lot to get here" I whispered.
"In Wakanda, we can heal her scars" he said.
"I don't think she wants that. I think she wants to remember her past, and her scars help her do that. I don't know why she does that, but she just does".
"Where are we taking her then".
"To Metro General in Hell's Kitchen" I answered. I knew that she'd want to be taken there. She knew a nurse there who dealt with superhumans.
(Will's P.O.V.)
I woke up in a hospital room. This was all too normal for me. "Hey, you're finally up" James said quietly from the chair next to my bed "you've been out of it for a couple of days, and don't worry, no one knows where we are. I made sure that dad and Tony couldn't find us".
"T-thank you" my voice was barely above a whisper "can we go home. I hate hospitals".
"The doctors want to keep you for observation".
"Where are we, James".
"Metro General, in Hell's Kitchen".
"There's a nurse here named Claire Temple. Can you find her for me".
James nodded and left the small room. He came back a few minutes later. "She no longer works at this hospital" he said "she quit a a couple weeks ago".
"She was my only chance of getting out of here sooner" I muttered "I guess we're staying here for another few days".
Two days passed, and I was going to be released from the hospital the next day.
A nurse came into the room. "I have a Steve Rogers here to see you. Should I let him in" she asked, looking at both of us for a rely. I looked at James for help.
"It's your call" he said.
"I don't want to see him" I told the nurse. She nodded and left. A while later, James's phone rang.
"It's dad" he announced.
"Put it on speaker".
"Son, I know that you don't want to speak with me right now, but I need to know if your sister is okay" Steve said. I could hear the concern in his tone.
"You didn't even see if she was alright when Tony shot her, so I think that you lost all right to know if she's okay now" spat James. I didn't think that he could be this protective of me.
"If Will is awake, then let me talk to her".
"No, she doesn't want to speak with you either. I can't blame her after what you and Tony did" James hung up.
"I don't think that I ever want to speak with them again. They don't care about me anymore" this what what lost hope felt like. It felt like utter defeat and complete abandonment.
"They do care, Will, but they just care a little too much".
"They didn't care enough to stop fighting".
"Okay, where will we live when we get out of here" he asked "we can't go back to our apartment if you don't want to see Dad. And we can't go back to the tower or to HQ-".
"We could live with Nat" I suggested "or we could stay at Clint's farmhouse".
"Okay, I'll just call Natasha then".
He went out in the hall. "We have a place to stay, but Natasha is coming to get us" he said when he came back into the room after a few minutes.
"You think she'll beat up Tony for me" I asked jokingly.
"She may actually do that when you tell her what happened".
An hour later, Natasha was at the hospital.
"What happened to you" she demanded. Her tone was normal, almost as if she'd expected this.
"I was in the crossfire of a repulser beam that was meant for Steve" I answered, fidgeting with my hands.
"So Tony did this to you".
I nodded. "And they didn't even stop to see if I was okay".
"Now I see why you two want to come live with me" she sighed.
That night. l left another message for Bruce when no one was around.
"Hey, Bruce, it's Will. Tony shot me. I'm okay though, but I just don't think that I can be near any of Avengers anymore. Tell me what remote country you live in, and I'll move there too because no one seems to be able to find you, and I don't want them to find me" I said "I need to start over, and I could really use the help of someone else who doesn't want to be found".
I was released from the hospital the next day. "And you won't tell the others that we're here" James asked nervously. Natasha nodded.
"So what now. I can't go back to school, and I can't go back home" I sighed.
"Just lay low for a couple weeks, and then you can go back to school. I'll handle Steve and Tony" Nat stated.
"Okay".
