A few minutes later I sit across from AJ outside on the curb behind the parlor.

The cool April breeze rustles his hair, and the flashing lights behind us illuminate the street perfectly.

That's when I feel something cold smash into my face.

I look over at AJ in shock to see him laughing hysterically, while pulling his icecream back into his hands.

Glaring, I jump to my feet, before dumping my dish onto his head.

Without warning he tackles me into the grass, tickling me while I laugh like a maniac.

This felt good.

It felt like we were free.

I let out a breath as he finally stops, before rolling over so that we are laying next to each other, looking up at the stars.

That's when I notice how dark it is, and pull out my phone.

9:00.

"AJ, we missed the meeting!" I exclaim, sitting up, and his eyes widen.

"Let's go," he gasps, and runs off down the road, pulling me by the hand.

As we climb into AJ's car, my phone rings out, and I reach for it before answering.

"Hi," Lila breathes from the other end, and I groan.

"Hey, Lila. We're on our way," I huff, pulling a wad of napkins from AJ's glove compartment and wiping off the remaining ice cream that is plastered to my face.

"No! No, we're not there, listen-"

I hear a long beep and look down to see that my phone has died.

"AJ!" I demand. "Lila said they aren't there."

"Alright, well let's just go and see if Carlos or anyone stuck around to clean up or something." He states, and I nod.

After a quick glance at his ice cream covered hair, I toss him a napkin with a giggle.

"Clean yourself up," I poke him, and he shoots me a sideways grin.

"Anything for you, princess."
