Bane's POV
I swept my daughter into my arms as I pushed through the crowd. Thankfully after all these years, I still had people who would protect me. People knew who Allura was and many would do anything to protect her so the crowd moved so we could pass and then made it hard for guards to follow us.
"Bane in here." Peter grabs me by my arm and leads me to a shop. "I can't hide both of you so right now she's our priority." He tells me as he takes Allura from my arms.
"How will we meet up again?" I ask as his son comes into the room and his father leaves.
"I'll come find you when everything is safe. My father and I won't let anything happen to her." He assures me and I nod as I slip out the back door. The crowd was starting to disperse and I go along a side street to see where Allura's friend was. Her body was blackened and I wished I could take her body down but the Lisstarians will leave it on display for weeks.
"This is what treason gets you." An old woman beside me says and I look at her. "Welcome home, Bane." I recognize her as my first teacher at the dragon rider academy. "Come." Her bent over body walks back into the street and I follow her. "It's been a long time. A lot has changed since you sought my guidance once upon a time."
"My daughter...." I try to tell her.
"I know, it's sad what happened to her friend but in order for her to rise out of the ashes....she must be destroyed." I know what is going to happen but I wish she was older before everything came crumbling down.

The magic wore off and I slowly opened my eyes. I could feel the dried tears on my face and I try to rub them away. Melanie was dead and I AM going to get revenge. Houston will pay for what he did and I wasn't going to make it short and simple. He will suffer tenfold for her pain.
"I am truly sorry about Ambassador Melanie." I look up and see a man around my father's age. His chestnut colored hair is dotted with gray and he studies me sadly.
"I'll get my revenge." I tell him as I sit up slowly. My head is pounding and I touch my forehead where the spell entered my brain. The mages haven't taught me a spell like this one before. "What happened?"
"Your father saw you escape your guards and seized the opportunity to rescue you before the Lisstarians really punished you. You were fighting him so he used an ancient spell to render you unconscious. However, it did not seem to mix well with your magic."
"Yeah I can tell." I say as I swing my legs over the side of the bed. My head kept pounding and I put two hands to my forhead this time. "There seems to be so much I don't understand," I tell myself as I try to remeber any of the self-healing spells I have learned.
"Your father and I will try to help with that. But we will have to wait a week or two before we can sneak you out of Lisstar." The man says.
"What's your name?" I ask him realizing he didn't introduce himself.
"Peter. I was a dragon rider like your father once upon a time." I look up at the man trying to imagine him as a dragon rider.
"Why aren't you a dragon rider now?" I ask as I focus on relieving my head of it's pain. The meditation doesn't help so I give up trying to think of a way to stop the pain. "My father could use all the help he can get."
"The dragon I was bonded to was killed by the last king of Lisstar. Due to the strong bond, I have not been able to speak to dragons since her death. I also assumed that the dragons would be able to take care of the last of the dragon riders on thier own but all but your father and a few riders like I are remaining. Until you came along."
"I am really starting to get tired of being everyone's last hope." I tell him.
"But you would not be the only one." I hear a new voice say and a handsome young man comes down the stairs. "You are not the only descendant of the last dragon riders." I study his face not wanting to admit that I found him kind of attractive.
"Are you really up to the life I've been leading? It is not safe out there and honestly, I have almost gotten myself killed on numerous occasions." I tell him and Peter laughs.
"You both will protect each other. Maybe one day, you will learn how to see each other as equals." Peter says as I study the boy who was going to be my partner in all of this.
