A breath through the mouth of another's. It was as though she was no longer a girl, or even a human at all.
Atop the wall was like standing on the edge of the world. She could see everything and nothing at all. Flying through the air was unlike anything she had experienced before. The cold air was bitter, but she could barely even feel it. She was soaring.
Everything was white. White sky, white clouds, white snow. White eyes.
Blue eyes.
"Hurry up Harley!" Jaelyn exclaimed, as Harley sharpened the last of her arrows.
"The rabbits aren't going anywhere," she groaned and whipped the tent entrance aside til she was out in the cold, looking at her friend's disapproving face.
"Seriously though, 'ow many arrows do you need?"
"Enough."Harley walked with her friend Jaelyn until they reached the woods by the south end of the camp. This was Harley's favourite woodland. This particular freefolk camp was pretty much in a gigantic clearing in the middle of a forest that she had heard been called the 'Haunted Forest'. But to them, there was a northern wood, an eastern, a western and a southern - Harley's favourite. However the freefolk had been to many different places, and quite frequently moved, typically south.
"I saw Oliver leaving your tent a while back, by the way." Jaelyn started, "Harley," she looked her in the eye, "you got something to tell me?" Jaelyn winked and grinned.
"Fuck off Jae," she muttered.
"I mean I know he's a little crippled at the moment but... I'm sure he is still able to... y'know..."
Harley punched her on the shoulder.
"Ow!" she laughed, "I'm only playin'!"The white rabbit blended in to its snowy background.
"For fucksake." Harley groaned. She was holding her bow, aiming at the rabbit. Her right arm had started cramping up."Think about dinner..." Jae whispered, eyes closed while she imagined eating the poor little white rabbit.
The arrow shot out from her bow.
"Fuck, fuck, fuck!" Harley yelped.
"Aww Harls you were so close!"
Harley put her head in her hands, she never missed..."Fancy seeing you here."
A recognisable voice.
"Farlan!" Harley smiled at her brother, "how's the thing going, you know, with dad?"
He shrugged, "well... you know papa."
There was a moment of silence after that. Farlan was the first to speak.
"Um - Jae... can we... talk?"Harley whipped her head round to look at her best friend.
"Why'd'ya wanna talk to Jae?" Harley questioned, "and since when was she Jae to you?" Harley looked from her brother who was hinting at a smile to her best friend who's face was slowly turning red, "wait you two aren't getting it on, are you?"Another silence.
"Jae," Farlan grinned, "please."
"Sure." she smiled back at him.
Jaelyn stood up and approached Farlan, "sorry Harl, we'll go hunting some other time."
"Don't worry 'bout it." Harley sniggered as they walked off side by side, leaving her alone in the woods.Harley saw a slight movement in the snow, she knew she could get it, she barely ever missed the rabbits - they were by far the easiest animal to hit. She drew back, and fired. The rabbit's fur was soon stained red.
"Yes!""Jaelyn told me you'd be out here."
Harley dropped her bow and whipped her head around, hurting her neck in the process, "ironic isn't it? Rabbit girl, killing one of her own."Erik stood, covered in snow and frost. His shoulders looked bigger due to the massive fur garments he was wearing to keep warm. Erik was a broad man. He was several years older than Harley, who was only eighteen. He had a shaggy beard, and long messy hair, a brown so dark it could be black. His pale blue eyes were watching Harley intently. Barely once did he blink them. He was a large, intimidating man, and just so happened to be obsessed with Harley.
"I'm not rabbit girl." Harley gritted her teeth.
"No," he said softly, "but you are my girl."
