Chapter 18
"MEGAN!" Rebecca was crying, desperately grabbing at and shaking her girlfriend's shoulders.
Megan never moved. Nor did she ever breathe. Again.
From that night on, Rebecca never knew anything of true love. She'd found it deep within the heart of her most unlikely ally, and it'd been taken away from her merely by something as small as a bullet. From autopsies conducted on Megan, Rebecca discovered that the bullet had somehow changed its course and shot right up through her heart, killing her instantly.
It's been five years since that fateful night, and we find ourselves following Rebecca now, as she closes the front door to her house and walks over to her small sky blue Hyundai Getz and drops into the driver's side.
She exhales a strained sigh. Today marks five years since Rebecca lost her soulmate. She'll never forget Megan Baldwin, nor will she ever forget the joy and love that she brought to Rebecca behind her hostile exterior.
But that's merely a memory now. Rebecca must go to the battlefield and fulfill her duty as an Australian soldier in Afghanistan.
