We arrived at Platinum looking fly like always. We had fellas looking at us as soon as we walked through the door. I saw one dude pull Shalonda to the side to try to holler at her. She just flashed her wedding ring in his face and said ‘Sorry I’m taken!’ and walked away. It didn’t seem to faze him none because as soon as she walked away he was all in another lady’s face.
She then looped her arms in between Zina's and Jaylah's and pulled them away leaving me and Maria to stand there alone.
"Is she mad at you or something?" Maria asked once we got to the bar.
"You noticed that?" I asked. I thought I was the only one to notice her glares.
"Yeah I did. So, um, what's going on between you and Shalonda's husband?"
"It's a long story," I simply said hoping she would leave it alone again.
"The lady says again!" she said in a narrator voice. She laughed at her failed attempt and looked at me.
"It's fine, you don't have to tell me," she said shrugging while turning around in her stool and putting her elbows on the bar.
Thank God.
"Oh my goshh!" she said quickly turning back around in her stool.
"What's wrong with you?" I asked.
"Do you see that man over there in the yellow shirt?"
I turned to see him but she quickly turned me back around. What is this girl's problem?
"No, no, no! You can't look!"
"How am I supposed to know who you're talking about if I can't turn around to see him?" I asked laughing. She was starting to remind me of the way Jaylah was when she was around fine men.
"Uh I don't know? Just don't look yet okay?"
"You're serious??"
"Yesssss!" she said dragging the letter "s" at the end of the word.
"This man can NOT be that fine," I said laughing, "I have to turn around and see this brother."
So that's what I did. I immediately spotted him, I mean he was the only dude I seen with a bright yellow t-shirt on in the dark club. To my surprise he was already looking our way.
"Um I think your man's coming our way Maria."
"Really?"
"Yuppp," I said popping the "p", "And I must say girl you got taste because that's one fine motherfu..."
"Okay, okay!" she said interupting my sentence.
I furrowed my eyebrows at her. "You aight?"
She nodded.
"Hey ladies can I buy you a drink," said the mystery man, his eyes glued on Maria.
"No thanks," I said smiling at him.
"What about you?" he asked Maria.
She sort of just stared at him so I had to fill in for her.
"I don't think she needs anything either. You see how she is sober," I said whispering the last part recieving a glare from Maria. The mystery man laughed.
"Does your friend here talk?" he asked.
"Normally."
He laughed. "Well my name is Marcus," he said while extending his hand for me to shake.
"I'm Anya and mute mouth over here is Maria," I said recieving another glare from her. I just shrugged it off.
"Well nice to meet you Ms. Anya and um," he cleared his throat, "Maria."
I can tell she nearly melted with the sound of her name coming out of her mouth.
"Um let me go to the bathroom. I'll be right back okay?" I said looking at Maria. She was giving me a pleading look asking me not to go but eventually gave up and said okay. I walked away and found my way to the closest bathroom which happened to be by the entrance. There I saw Jaylah standing there by the womens bathroom alone. "Where was Shalonda and Zina?" I wondered.
"Hey Jaylah what's up?" I asked her which came out more like 'Why the heck are you just standing here by yourself?' instead.
"I left Shalonda and Zina," she said answering my obvius question.
"Why?"
"They were talking about you and I didn't want to be in the middle of it," she said looking away.
They were talking about me? Why would they be talking about me?
"They were talking about me? Why would they be talking about me?" I said voicing my thoughts.
Jaylah sighed. "She noticed how you were looking at Trevor. You know how she is about him."
Oh yeah I knew alright. She really had no right to try to hold anything against me. If anyone were to have the right to hold a grudge it would be me.
"And how am I?" asked the all too familiar voice.
Jaylah's eyes widened. Poor girl looked horrified. I turned around to meet Shalonda and Zina. Shalonda had her arms crossed scowling in Jaylah's direction and Zina had her hands on her hips while popping her gum.
"Oh please Shalonda, you know exactly how you are. You think everybody wants your man."
"Apparantly you do," she said snapping her attention to me. "I seen how you were looking at him today but I decided to let it slide."
"Pleasssee Shalonda, I've already had your man."
"Well he's mine now and you can't have him back," she said smirking.
I sighed and shook my head. ""Listen to yourself, shouldn't you feel bad about taking your sister's boyfriend?"
"Um no?" she said but made it sound more like a question, "And besides you were already out of the picture before I stepped in."
I swear at that moment I almost blacked out and took this trick on but instead I just took a deep breath and closed my eyes. I was really tired of having this same arguement. It was so hard to let go of things when there is someone around always reminding you of them.
"Let's just go," I said.
"You gone have to your own ride home because you're not riding back in my car."
"But my car is at your house Shalonda!" I said raising my voice.
"Not my problem."
Without saying nothing else she and her little sidekick walked off. She had some nerve. I clenched my jaw and began to breathe in heavily. Words just can't explain the anger and frustration I felt right now. How could your own flesh and blood stoop so low in order to cause pain. I believe I will never understand because even with all she just said I couldn't really bring myself to actually hate her. I turned around to find Jaylah just standing there still looking frightened. Why did thi girl look so nervous all the time?
"Are you ready to go?"
She nodded so I told her to follow me to find Maria. Maybe her new friend Marcus could give us a ride home.
AN: Sorry for any mistakes, I didn't really go through and edit it. Let me know what you think though! sn: That's a picture of Marcus on the side. :)
