"Nervous Anya?" Charles asked moving closer.

"Why don't you leave us alone and go back where you came from? You don't belong here." I tried to say that boldly so that I cover up how uncomfortable he was making me.

"I do belong here. And besides, if I do go anywhere you're coming with me.

He moved in to kiss me again. I turned my head. I was not doing that again if I didn't have to.

"Let me guess, you want me to leave?"

I nodded. He laughed and walked over to our door.

"Come on,"

"What?" I managed to get out.

"You're coming with me."

He chuckled and walked out the door. Me? Go with him? He could not be serious.

"You have five minutes!" he called out. Oh my goodness.... he wasn't joking. I stood there, my mind frozen in time. Why would he attempt to break us up?

"Anya?" Shalonda said softly, her voice shaking with fear. I turned slowly meeting my sister's glance. Her hands were slowly dropping from the cheek Charles had just slapped, her jaw slightly hanging. I tried hard not to cry but the terrified look on Shalonda's face caused the water works to start. The tears that I had been holding in all night began to fall from my eyes uncontrollably. Shalonda quickly jumped off her bed and ran to comfort me. She threw her arms around my neck and pulled me closer as I continued to cry on her shoulder.

"We're not going to let him take you Anya. Mama wouldn't let him take you."

"Charles?! What are you talking about?" we heard mama yell.

The sound of her voice startled us and we quickly broke apart. My constant sobbing ceased leaving my face feeling puffy and red. Relief began to wash over me as I recalled Shalonda's recent words, 'Mama wouldn't let him take you.' Sure she let's him beat on her but she would object if he ever hurt us...right? Although there was a little doubt in my mind that she wouldn't let that happen, the worried sound in her voice reassured me that my worries were irrelevant.

We slowly followed their voices to the kitchen where they were still arguing.

"Like I said Anya's coming with me!"
