Chapter 3 ~ Obscure
* Eli's POV *
I peered through the trees after Macy turned her head. My eyes widened fractionally when I saw cloaked figures. I tightened my grip on Avery's hand and almost as if it were a defense mechanism within me I stepped ahead of both girls.
"Look at what we have here? Hybrids and a vampire I see?" A stiff feminine voice whispered. She didn't emerge from the shadows so quickly. A sense of panic lit in the pit of my stomach. This wasn't good - oh course it wasn't good - we were in trouble.
I habitually looked over to my twin. She didn't look scared, she seemed deep in thought as her eyes trained onto the hidden being.
It was then I realised that the woman was not in the shadows but her cloak managed to obscure her identity with only the tip of her pale chin unveiled under the moonlight.
Another cloaked figure derived from the darkness. This time; instead of a petite frame, there was a tall, broad one. "Do not fear children. We mean no harm." The voice was surprisingly tranquil.
"Who are you?" I voiced confidently. I don't know how but it was like I could hear the male smiling asides the fact it was silent.
"It's always the same question. Who are you? What do you want? How did you know I was... It's very tedious: small talk." It was the woman who spoke now. There was a slightly dangerous tone to her voice.
"But it's what they want to know. Shall we?"
The woman didn't respond to the male. In sync they both stepped forward which caused their hoods to cascade down their long hair. The woman was lightly tanned with sharp features and the man was pale with rather aristocratic features. Despite their difference in complexion they both had identical red scorching eyes.
But that didn't answer the question. Who are they?
"We still don't know who you are," Macy pointed out bluntly. I arched an eyebrow at her - she seemed to have a rather suspicious tone to her voice. Or maybe I just made that up.
The woman before us pressed her lips together almost to gain patience. The guy smiled softly. "Do not worry child. We're not too important."
"Then let us be." I didn't expect Avery to speak yet confidence rang in her angelic voice.
The glance the male gave Avery was only fleeting; his attention was directed towards Macy and I. "Tell me. Who are your parents?"
Macy hesitated. I could tell what she was thinking about - I wanted to think about the same thing. But I didn't. "That is none of your concern," I answered.
"No need to get rude little boy," the female snapped. Her animalistic eyes transformed into cat like slits. She took a challenging step forward and I mirrored her. Avery tried to tug me back, closer to her, but I resisted.
"Relax. The children are simply... cautious." I wasn't sure whether I was being deceived by the male. He was calm - too calm that I wasn't sure if it was an exterior he could slip into. I preferred it when people are like the woman. They are practically based on the first impression.
A heard a rustle of leaves near by followed by footsteps that came closer and closer. I soon heard the hum of a familiar heart.
"Look who's joined the gathering. Max Cullen. It's surely been a while." I felt serene at the presence of my Father in this solitary situation but it exasperated me how little I knew of my Father's prior life.
Narissa looked clueless momentarily however she remained quiet. "Aro," my Dad's stuff voice greeted.
The male, Aro, averted his gaze to Macy and I. "Ah. So you're the father of these charming twins. You and Amelia must be so happy."
