Chapter 19 ~ Shock

* Macy's POV *

We moved quickly from hotel to hotel. It was as if Aro, Narissa or whoever was in charge knew that we would be followed to these places, or maybe Elijah or I would do something that would rat them out. I didn't think it was likely though, I didn't even know where we were anymore. But on the brighter side I was no longer upset about the situation. Yes, I was contained in elaborate hotel rooms or endless hours and yes, I was separated from my twin. But it didn't bother me anymore. The dark clouds that loomed in my head spread over body and seemed to slow down time itself.

It had only been two days and I was beginning to lose hope. I couldn't imagine what was happening with the family right this second. I knew that they wouldn't rest to find me, it was just my own parents that I was scared about. I wanted them to find me out of the whole family. I needed to see that things between them were okay, particularly because I barely knew my Mom but I knew my Dad well. Plus, I have already seen that they do not get along.

I continued to stare at the antique Grandfather clock, I let my legs sway with each tick. The mahogany of it matched the other pieces of furniture in the room. The bed frame, the desk, the bookshelf, the dresser. There were also elaborate bed sheets, curtains and couch. It was like a recurring theme with every hotel, they seemed to all be fit for a King. Or maybe a Princess, in my case.

I hoped Elijah was in a similar place, I knew that he was in a different hotel elsewhere. Maybe in a different country or continent. I rolled over on the bed so I was lying on my stomach. Selestia sat in the same room as me. Her eyes were fixated on a book. Apart from the fact she petrified me, I admired her interest in literature. It reminded me of what I wanted to do, before anything happened. I wanted to get up and reach the bookshelf. To run my index fingers over the spines before picking one out and reading it. But I lacked courage because I was frightened of my captor. Yes, she had punished me only once, but I didn't want to see those ghastly visions again.

A small part nagged me. Getting up and getting a book wasn't against the unwritten rules of being kidnapped. So I did so anyway. I hopped off the bed and manoeuvred around the room, I tried to do this in a normal fashion so I didn't look suspicious. Selestia's eyes shot up, she watched me walk across the room. I didn't falter in my step. I sighed in relief when I reached the bookshelf. I ran my index finger over the spines.

I love books, I love how I could just open one up and enter a completely new world that may or may not exist. I get to make friends when life becomes a hell hole, so instead of concentrating on  my problems, I could help and figure out theirs.

I picked out one at random. It was a hard back and it was red like Selestia's eyes. The writing was in gold and it read Midsummer's Night Dream from Shakespeare. I put it back, Grandma had read this book a lot when I was younger. Before I could pick out another book, there was a knock at the door. Selestia cursed, she had already cancelled the maid service - she didn't want to be interrupted. She stalked over to open the door.

From the sound of it, she didn't recognise who had come. I knew this because there were no words, not because I was looking that way. I knew she was looking at his memories. Narissa was wrong, Selestia didn't have the power to haunt people. She had the power to look through her memories and replay them, good or bad. She could also alter them and make them say things that aren't true.

"Mackenzie." It was Narissa's voice who called me, I wasn't even aware she was here. I obediently turned back.

My eyes fell on Narissa, Selestia and then a boy. I faltered back and hit the shelf hard. I slid to the ground. "Ash what are you doing here? Leave while you can," I breathed out before I could control myself.
