Chapter 21 ~ Ambush
* Amelia's POV *
Max had picked up the last of our things whilst I woke up. I felt considerably better and was relieved that I did not receive any nightmares like Max had. The sun hit my face so I squinted, I wanted to seep deeper into the duvet and remain sleeping for a week but I forced my eyes open. When I was asleep my whole being was wafted with Max's scent. He was mouth-watering and I was afraid that I slept half intoxicated. I presumed that my inner Amelia, his Amelia was emerging out.
Now, I was beside Max, he picked up his credit card, he had eaten a little bit while I slept. So now we were ready to go and continue our conquest.
I stepped behind Max so we could leave the room but my hand shot to my throat, I suddenly felt like someone had lit an open flame inside my throat. I started to panic, unsure about what was going on. I clasped my throat with my over hand and gasped for air. Max heard this, he turned around and watched me suffer. I could feel instincts take over and he suddenly smelt a lot nicer than I had established earlier and this was because of a completely different reason.
I shook my head at the thought of his lovely aroma and tried to distract myself with something - anything. It was too potent, it overruled anything that I could possibly feel instead and I still didn't get what it was. "What's happening to me Max?" I breathed out in a strained voice.
"You're thirsty," he stated. Thirsty? How can I be thirsty, thirsty for what? He dropped the bags down - we'll have to check out later. "Let's go."
Where? I wanted to ask. I didn't want to open my mouth just in case I did anything stupid. I didn't move at first so Max held my wrist and dragged me out the room. "Hold your breath," he ordered. I did as I was told and the urge to run crazy lessened fractionally. Max pulled me out of the motel and down the street in the most humane way he could. I admit we did get weird looks from our by passers but neither of us cared.
He took us to a forest, one I knew that stretched on for miles. We walked in, first the trees were thin and short but gradually as we moved in they became broad and taller. He stopped when we reached a congregation of rocks, we stop on them and he let go of me. "You need to hunt," he told me. I continued not to breathe and gave a perplexed look.
"Hunt. Hunt what? Max, I really don't get what you're on about. First you talk about some sort of thirst and now hunting? Can you please elaborate?"
He gave me a flat look. "Don't tell me you're being serious."
"I don't know what you're talking about," I repeated. He stared at me a little longer and bent over in laughter. I jumped two feet up in the air because of the outburst and he was actually kind of scaring me. I had no recollection of his laughter, scratch that I had no recollection of him not being angry or upset. But there he was, right in front of me laughing like there was no tomorrow.
He clutched his stomach and I could swear I could see tears streaming down his face. I felt insulted, I was completely clueless and he's laughing at me! I ran my hand over my face and then concentrated on one thing. His laughter. I probably wouldn't hear it ever again unless I did something like this in the future. I committed the hearty sound to memory. I actually loved it, it sounded amazing and truly was music to my ears but I knew this was all because of his Amelia.
"Okay you can stop now. It's good to know I'm hilarious and all but I would really like to hear the joke," I said spitefully.
I lightly smacked him on the arm but it ended up being harder than intended. Ugh, stupid vampire tendencies. He straightened himself out, still drunk on laughter. He wiped the tears from his face. "That hurt," he complained and rubbed his arm. He smiled, still amused with my condition.
