Chapter 12 ~ Spontaneous
* Amelia's POV *
There was a knock on the door. I closed my eyes and told myself that everything is going to be fine. I don't know Elijah and Mackenzie well so why would this bother me?
I have my own life now and they have theirs.
"Come in," I called out. The door flew ajar within the matter of seconds and the twins came into view.
"Good morning Mom," they greeted in sync. I could hear the ring in their voice and see the spring to their step - they really loved their Mother didn't they?
"Good Morning Mackenzie and Elijah. Are you two okay?" I said casually. I perched on the freshly made bed and invited them over.
They sat next to me without a second delay. "Yeah we're wonderful. How about you Mom?" Elijah answered.
I nodded. "Yeah I'm fine." I tried to give them a smile but it felt forced. I pressed my lips into a thin line and looked down at my interlaced fingers. Although my carelessly long sleeves covered half of my palms, my hands felt cold.
"You came into my dream," Macy said knowingly. I nodded again.
"Sorry for prying. I just wanted to try it out," I replied.
"Oh it's okay. I'm actually glad. It's the best dream I ever had," she chirped. This time I managed to look at her and smile. But something told me this was wrong. I shouldn't talk to them when I have to leave.
But why should a Mother leave her children? I decided not to question it. I didn't know them. I didn't know anyone. I don't know how to feel. So nothing should bother me.
"That's good," I said. I bit my lip. "I have to tell you two something."
"Can you tell us whilst we have breakfast? Nana is cooking today and she makes the best," Elijah invited. I scrunched up my lips.
"I'm not a big fan of food," I excused.
"Neither am I. Dad hates it; he always complains." I bit the inside of my mouth. I couldn't comprehend the relationship between Max and his children. It didn't make any sense.
"As long as you consume something Macy, that's all that counts. Anyway, I really have to tell you two something."
"C'mon, you can tell us on the way," Elijah said. He hopped up, Macy did too.
"And there's no rush. You are staying, aren't you?" Macy questioned. She gave me an expectant look, it began to falter when I remained silent.
"Yeah, about that..." I trailed. The two furrowed their eyebrows and then became impassive.
They really are twins, aren't they?
"Why do you sound so unsure?" Elijah asked hesitantly.
"I was talking to your Father last night - "
"He really does love you, you know," Macy interjected quickly.
Yeah, if wanting me to leave and never come back resembled his love for me, then he must love me to the moon and back.
"We talked. Right now is a very difficult time for him, I promise that we get to reconvene one day - "
"You're... leaving?" Macy whimpered. She blinked a couple times and I could hear, in sync, the pulse rate of each twin rapidly increase.
"Yes, I'm leaving," I confirmed.
"You can't leave, no we just got you," Elijah protested.
"It's what your Father wants - "
