Prologue
There are many types of bonds.
There is the bond between a husband and wife. A son and mother, a son and father. A daughter and mother, a daugther and father. A brother and sister. The list is endless.
But there is a bond that is over-looked most of the time. This bond, I believe, is one of the stronger ones.
Master and Servant.
Most of the time, masters are depicted as cruel people who abuse their servants. They're also depicted as a servant being a sort of side-kick or lap-dog. In most cases, servants are older than their masters.
But in some cases, like that of the story that is about to unfold, the servant and the master are the same age. Such a thing happens mainly when a child is bought from their mother and father, or from slave-traders, and given to the child of a wealthy person as a toy of some sort. Most wealthy children treat them as such. Sometimes, though, they develop a bond and some sort of relationship, be it friendly or romantic.
Now, let's add the element Vampire. As you can guess a servant for a vampire is just a living blood bag. Sometimes, the vampires will turn their servants into vampires as well, in a romantic situation and in the case of a strong friendship. Most of the time, vampires feed off of their servants for years until the servant becomes old and therefore "useless".
As you know, vampires live for eternity, hardly aging if aging at all.
A lot of people say that vampires who are created by another vampire stop aging at the age they turned. As for vampires who are born as vampires, a certain number of human years equals one vampire year. The exact number of human years is unknown.
The fact that the government still hides the existence of vampires makes it very hard for them to hide. They have to move around a lot so that people don't start noticing that they don't age.
Of course, after the invention of a special ring that allows them to walk in sunlight, hiding isn't as hard as it used to be. But with the ability to send their kids to human schools, vampires started having to move more.
Why not just make vampire schools? Well, either way, the school would have to undergo inspections, and even with vampires working in the district, a human would be bound to stumble upon the school eventually. And what if a human family wanted to enroll their children in the school? Sure, they could easily be turned away, but they'd want to know why.
The cold winter wind blew harshly over the woods, scattering snow from the branches of trees. Very gently, more snow began to fall from the dark clouds in the sky. All was dark and quiet in the wood. Only one little light could be seen deep within the woods, as well as a small cloud of smoke rising from the chimney.
A cry of pain rose from inside the house.
A woman was lying on a bed, several maids and servants stood at her side, encouraging her and holding her hands. A doctor crouched at the end of the bed, assissting in the birth of a child. Meanwhile, the husband of the woman was standing nearby, watching nervously.
Finally the mood in the room lightened from anticipation to great joy as a baby's cry was heard. The husband sat as his wife's side as the baby was cleaned and then placed in her arms.
He gestured for everyone to leave the room.
"What should we name him? Our son..." mused the man.
