Chapter Two
Gabriel had somehow convinced the secretary to let them hang around the school as visitors. Of course, he did in fact tell the truth... Kind of. He told her that his father wanted him to check out the school before enrolling them.
Okay, so that wasn't even close to the truth.
At lunch time, Michael found them outside of his classroom. Miles and Gabriel had been wandering around the school when the bell rang and students flowed from the classrooms.
"Hey!" Michael greeted them. "Do you guys want to eat lunch with us?" he asked.
Gabriel, of course, nodded eagerly. Miles was a little more hesitant in nodding.
At the same time, though, he could understand why Gabriel was so excited. They'd been taught at home all this time, this was their first time in an actual school. Gabe wasn't even rushing around drinking blood as Miles had expected, he was behaving himself quite well. Regarding everything with polite curiostiy as they wandered around the school.
Michael smiled and started leading them out of the school.
"So... Can I ask you guys something? If it's personal and you're touchy, I'll let you punch me as hard as you want," Michael said as they walked.
Gabe looked at him curiously, "Sure, ask away."
"Are you two... You know... Well... You were holding hands earlier," the other boy stuttered, his face red.
Miles and Gabriel exchanged a puzzled expression. Michael quickly turned to them and waved his hands frantically. "Know what? Never mind! I'll ask some other time!" he told them.
Miles nodded to him, "Alright..."
They were outside in the parking lot and Miles was beginning to wonder why they were eating lunch out here. He saw the other three boys waiting for them by a red car. As they approached, Miles eyed Alex suspiciously. He hadn't been able to get the guy's face out of his mind since they first departed. It was starting to drive him insane.
Why was he so different?!
Alex had been facing away from Miles and, when they were closer, he turned and greeted him. "Hey, Miles and Gabriel! You going to lunch with us?"
Miles stopped about five feet away while Gabriel and Michael greeted the others. Gabriel had readily agreed to go out to lunch with them, now Miles wasn't so sure he wanted to go.
Jason got into the driver side of the red car and Michael hopped into the passenger side. Gabriel, Tyler, and Alex began sliding into the backseat. Miles continued to stand still, staring at them uncertainly.
"Hey, Miles aren't you coming?" Alexander asked, poking his head out.
Before Miles could answer, Gabe leaned out of the car. "He has to come!" he said. The way he said it, it was more of a command than a wish. Miles might have argued, had he not seen the way Gabriel's eyes glowed for a split second.
Whenever he did that, it meant that if Miles didn't obey, Gabe would be very angry. Miles hated it when Gabriel got angry.
Miles nodded, "Yeah, I'm coming." He stepped over to the car and slid in next to Alex.
