Chapter Eight

Miles stared at Gabriel blankly, trying to process what he had just said. 'What if they're already vampires?' The words echoed in his mind over and over again. After a few seconds, Miles started blinking again. It was slowly sinking in and now questions were beginning to flood Miles' mind.

"Are they?" was his first question.

Gabriel sighed and looked away. "You need to tell me what you would do if they were before I answer you," he said.

Miles was suddenly growing angry. His gaze turned to a glare. "Damn it Gabriel! I don't know what I would do! Just tell me the freaking truth already!" he shouted.

Gabriel looked taken aback by the tone of Miles' voice. For a few seconds, Miles considered apologizing and answering Gabriel's questions. After all, Gabe was his master and that tone of voice shouldn't be tolerated. Miles quickly changed his mind, however. He was being fueled by the anger of not knowing as much as everyone else.

Gabriel sighed again and answered, "Only one, besides Alex, is."

"Who is it?" Miles demanded. "Is it Michael? Tyler? Jason? I think it's Jason," he rambled.

Gabe shook his head, "It's not Jason... Or Tyler."

       "So it's Michael!" Miles half-shouted, half-asked.

Gabriel looked awfully depressed as he nodded his head.

Millions of thoughts and questions flowed like a river, though, on the outside, Miles didn't show it. If Michael was also a vampire, why hadn't he told Miles? Did he assume that Miles was a pure vampire? No, he should've been able to sense it. Maybe Gabe told him not to tell Miles? But why would he do that? Miles had never shown an interest in Michael. If Gabe should be threatened by ANY of the boys, it should be Tyler. Tyler was quite a catch as a matter of fact.

Miles turned away from Gabriel. "I'm going to go think somewhere," he said simply, walking out.

Gabriel followed him, "Wait, Miles, please."  He grabbed Miles' sleeve and pleaded, "I'm sorry... I just..."

Miles pushed Gabriel away. How ironic, that the tables had turned this way. Now Miles was the one refusing to speak to Gabriel, for a disobediant act. Though he wasn't necessarily disobeying, he was just... Miles never thought he would be in the position where he would push Gabriel away. Where he wouldn't want Gabriel.

       When he wouldn't... Love Gabriel.

"Why didn't you tell me?" Miles asked, not really caring for an answer.

He didn't wait, he turned and ran down the stairs, out the door, into the cold night air. He kept running until he was at the school. There he stopped and stood still, looking at the school. If they hadn't started attending... This would have never happened.

Miles walked to the park and sat on the swing. He wondered where Gabe was, he should have shown up by now. But maybe, for once, he thought it'd be best to leave Miles alone. He was right, if that's what he was thinking, because Miles did not want to see him right now.

Maybe he was making too much of a big deal out of the situation? Yes, Gabe had kept the information from him, but who cares? Miles hadn't, and wouln't, told Gabe that he had considered Tyler as a boyfriend every now and then. Of course, that was a matter of life or death (for Tyler), so it was very different.

How could Miles stay mad at Gabriel though?

It was just a simple lie. It wasn't that important. Michael had kept the secret and so had Alex. If he was going to be angry with Gabe, he would have to get mad at all of them.

Miles shrugged and got off the swing, deciding to head home. He walked slowly, not because he was tired, but because he wanted to enjoy the cool night air. The darkness was calming, especially with dark clouds in the sky, covering the moon. Miles could tell that those were storm clouds, but it was still calming and refreshing.

When he got home, he found Gabriel sitting on the floor in front of the door. Gabe looked up at him with sad, yet joyful, eyes. "You're back!" he said happily. "I'm so sorry Miles! I don't know why I didn't tell you! Don't be mad!" he begged, hugging Miles' knees.

Miles fell over with Gabe still hugging him.

"I'm not mad anymore, it's alright Gabriel," he assured him.
