Chapter Three
Within two weeks, both Miles and Gabe found themselves completely submerged in 'highschool life'. On Gabe's birthday, most of the gifts he recieved were school supplies and such. Of course, as always, he shared his excess items with Miles.
Neither of the two had made a great attempt at making more friends, despite what Miles had thought. Apparently, Gabriel was content with the group of four boys.
Both were also excelling in their classes, Gabe fulfilling the promise to his father of all A's. It was easy, they'd had so many years to learn so many things.
Miles was enjoying his English Literature class more than any other. He loved reading and was always excited when the teacher announced the next book the class had to read.
Gabriel, on the other hand, was having more fun in his P.E class. His enhanced senses and strength made him a formidable competitor. He enjoy football the most. He liked seeing the looks on the other guys' faces when he plowed through them with ease.
They were popular with the girls, though most didn't talk to them at all.
They liked Miles because he was into poetry and such. They liked Gabe because he was athletic, yet he wasn't a giant, muscle-y jock guy.
There was only one thing wrong. Gabriel knew nothing about it though. Miles continued wondering about Alex. He'd done research and everything, he'd become literally obsessed with the black-eyed young man.
As it would turn out, Alex came from a long-line of hunters, though the tradition had died several generations before his birth. It would explain the feeling Miles got from him though. Miles often wondered if Gabe felt it, but didn't care or if Gabe didn't feel it at all.
"Hey Miles!" called Tyler one afternoon.
Miles was sitting on a bench after school, waiting for Gabriel to come out of basketball practice. (He'd wanted to sign up for football, but it was off -season)
Miles looked up from the book he was reading. "Oh hello Tyler, what're you doing here so late?" he asked.
Tyler sat down next to him. "Eh, I didn't feel like going home today," he responded with a shrug.
Miles looked at him rather startled. He'd never heard anyone say something like that. And his parents simply let him roam around town? Didn't they worry?
Tyler smiled, "Don't have a heart-attack! Seriously though, I'm home alone this week and being in my house when its empty is creepy."
"Why are you home alone?" Miles asked him.
"My dad's off at some business trip and my brother's away at college."
"What about your mom?"
Tyler looked away. "My mom left when I was young..." he answered quietly.
"Oh! I'm sorry," Miles replied sympathetically.
Tyler looked up with a smile on his face. "It's alright, I didn't know her so, it doesn't really matter to me. So... You're waiting for Gabriel right?" he asked. Miles nodded. "Well, practice will be going on for another... Twenty minutes. Do you want to hang out with me for a while?"
He stood up and watched Miles as he waited for a response. After thinking about it, Miles nodded and stood up as well, putting the book in his back-pack. "Where are we going to hang out?" he asked Tyler as he started walking away.
