Chapter Eleven

Gabriel ran down to the upside down car. He was panicking, hands on his head, looking at the wreckage. He had to help them, but who should he get out first? Miles, his love, or Tyler, the poor human involved in the conflict?

He had to get Tyler out first. Tyler was in need of more help than Miles. He knew that Miles would be fine, being able to heal quickly.

Gabe ripped the door off it's hinges and reached in. Thank God Tyler was wearing his seat-belt, or he would've died within seconds. He could hear Tyler gasping for breath as his blood dripped from a wound on his neck. Gabe squeazed his eyes shut for a moment, controlling himself.

He dragged Tyler out of the car, careful not to hurt him. A piece of glass jutted out of Tyler's jugular vein. Gabe almost threw up at the site.

Tyler's eyes were wide with fear and shock. He gasped and wheezed as he tried to say something to Gabriel.

Gabe put a finger on Tyler's lips, hushing him. He put a hand on the piece of glass and, ignoring Tyler's cry of pain, he pulled it out as gently as possible. Gabriel dropped the piece of glass to the side, his hand healing the cut quickly.

"Tyler, stay with me, okay? Don't close your eyes, I'll be right back, I'm going to help Miles out," he said, starting to stand up.

Tyler gripped his wrist quickly, "Gabe... I can't..." His voice was hoarse and quiet.

Gabriel could hear Miles starting to shift around, sliding himself out of the car. He knelt next to Tyler again, pulling out his cellphone.

"Yes you can. Just stay awake, listen to my voice, I'm calling an ambulance." He quickly dialed 911, gripping Tyler's hand tightly. When someone answered, Gabe spoke quickly, giving them the information and the street they were on. When he hung up, he put his now-free hand on Tyler's neck, applying pressure.

       This was it.

Gabriel's mind clouded so that only two thoughts entered. He could save Tyler, turn him into a vampire. It would be hard, but at least he'd be alive. Or, he could let Tyler die. That would save him the pain of changing. He'd be at peace, with no more worries. But he'd be gone. Jason, Alex, and Michael, would be extremely sad. Alex and Michael may blame him and Miles for not saving him, then again, if he did change Tyler, maybe they would be mad anyway.

How would Tyler feel, to be a vampire? Would he thank Gabe, or would he hate him?

"Gabe," Miles' voice broke him from his thoughts.

He looked up and saw Miles dragging himself out, holding his arm tightly against himself. "Miles, are you alright?" Gabe asked.

"I'm fine, I just need to... Sit..." Miles muttered, dropping to the ground. He lay still for a few minutes, thankfully, Gabe could see the rise and fall of his chest as he breathed.

Gabriel turned back to Tyler, who was still sqeezing his hand. "Gabe... I don't think... I can..." he breathed, coughing up some blood.

"Yes you can! Can you hear the sirens? They're almost here!"

It was true, not just to give Tyler a reason to stay awake. The sirens could be heard, not too far away. If only Tyler would just stay for a little while longer, he could be saved.

"Gabriel," Miles' voice said again. He was still laying on the ground, but now his head was turned to face him. "You can save him," he said quietly. "Save him, please."

Suddenly, Tyler's other hand came up and clutched Gabe's arm. "Gabe... I know... Please d-don't do that too me. Okay? I-if it's my time to die, then just let me die," he begged.

Gabriel looked down at him in shock, "What?"

       "Just let me die..."

       "What do you know?"

       "Just..."

Tyler was cut off by another bout of coughing. "Come on," Gabe said, "Tyler, just hold on. The ambulance is almost here."

"I can see the lights of the ambulance," Miles said, crawling over to them. "Just a couple more seconds."

Tyler didn't say anything anymore, he coughed more, blood spilling out from under Gabriel's hand. Miles put his hands over Gabe's in an attempt to stop the bleeding. It didn't work very well, blood continued to seep under their hands.

Gabriel could hear Miles sniffling and panting. He turned to face him. "Miles... I don't think..."

       "No Gabe! Don't say it!"

Tyler's eyes began to droop. Miles clenched Gabriel's hand and Gabe sqeezed Tyler's hand tighter.

Tyler took in a deep breath, his eyes slowly glazing over, and then he lay still.

The ambulance pulled up just as he let out his last breath. Miles began sobbing quietly, Gabe wrapped his arms around him.

It seemed to pass in slow motion. A paramedic helped Miles into the ambulance, police officers asked him and Gabriel questions. Gabe answered them mindlessly, explaining the wreck and how he had pulled Tyler out of the wreckage.

Tyler was pronounced officially dead, but Gabriel didn't need a paramedic to tell him that.

Jason, Alex, and Michael showed up the next day at the scene of the accident, paying silent respects to their long-time friend.
