The Foresight doctor knocked on the door and poked his head in the room. Kassandra looked up at him questioningly, an eyebrow raised.
The doctor said, "Ah yes, Ms. Sorrows?"
"Yes, Doctor?"
"I'm afraid..."
"I already know."
"But surely you-"
"I know. There's no more baby. Duh." Kassandra sounded bored and not at all pleased. From her emotions one could say she was properly composed.
The doctor was taken aback, not exactly sure how she found out such information and how unaffected she was about it. Kassandra resisted the urge to spring out of bed and pillage his neck. "Now if you could please," she said, holding her mouth as if she were about to vomit. "Yes, yes!" said he, scrambling away. "And bring me more!" she ordered just before the door clicked shut.
On the floor beside the bed lay dozens of empty plastic bags. On top of the cabinet lay a coffee mug, a tissue box, and an eyeliner. Kassandra was reading Downworlder, a thick novel with comfortable margins and a nice font. Red rings besieged the brown color in Kassandra's irises. The vampire read on.
Really, nothing had changed. She knew her body had hastily eaten the fetus. She promised herself she wouldn't kill anyone before she finished reading the novel. Downworlder was the only thing keeping her from screaming.
Kassandra sipped some coffee. She imagined what a werewolf's blood would taste like. The protagonist of the novel was a deranged werewolf who belonged to no pack. If I could just find him, she thought, creating an illusion for herself. The lone werewolf was about to confront the alpha of a huge pack in order to...
She pitched the book across the room. She had already read the story. She looked at her palms, as if she'd find the meaning to her life there. She'd always been able to feel Felix, but in that bed she only felt silence. So really there was no point in finding Felix after all. There was nothing special planned for either of them, nothing meaningful, nothing worthwhile.
She was hungry and all she could think about was the attractive doctor's neck and how it would crunch as she forced her jaw shut. She was biting her lip before she realized it. She stopped her swoon and sipped some coffee.

Felix still lay on the floor, trying to count each grain in the smooth marble floor. "Three... four... wait... one... two... three..."
The Overlord licked his lips clean of Felix's blood. It was the sweetest blood he'd tasted so far.
A huge black carpet smashed through the far wall. It was the Beast, who had his paws clasped over his cat ears and was squirming away from Agent Seven, who was scraping his swords together.
"Filthy animal. Out of the way!" ordered the Overlord. The beast whimpered then shot off to the corner of the atrium.
Seven stepped forward, twirling his twin swords. He lifted one to his former master then said, "I've come to slay you."
The Overlord laughed. "I am a god. Try me."
Carolyn moved to Seven's side and announced that she too, would do battle. The Overlord, still eyeing Seven, said, "Echo-Charlie. You were always my favorite underdog."
