The next morning, I walked into class and sat with Makena. The school week was at its end.

Asia came in, set her stuff down, and strolled over to me.

Andre watched her with his brows furrowed. I knew he was thinking, "what the fuck." Asia hadn't said a word to or looked at him.

Makena was astounded. Her head turned towards me. "You see this shit?"

I smiled. "I've come with news." Asia said.

Makena sat back to hear the news, texting nonsense on her cell, to show she wasn't listening.

"I made the cheer team." Asia beamed. "I'm their newest member."

"Aw, I love that." I said. "You'll do awesome."

"Thanks, I'm looking forward to it." I nodded. "You like dancing?"

"Yeah, I've been doing it since I was nine."

"I see. You should me a lil' something later." I told her.

"I'm meeting with the team." Asia said. "I'm meeting with mine, too." I smirked. You ain't running from me. "How 'bout after our meets?" I asked.

"That can work." Asia said.

Mr. Davis ambled in. Makena cleared her throat.

"Oh, wait a minute." I went into contacts on the cell, hit new contact, and slid it over to Asia.

Asia added her number. Andre watched. Makena hid her smile. "Thanks, mamas." I told Asia.

"Good morning, students." Mr. Davis said.

Asia nodded and returned to her seat. Makena chuckled at me. I shoved her shoulder.

ASIA

I sat down and felt someone touch me. I turned back to see Andre. He looked confused and sad.

"You vex with me or some shit?" He asked. "No." I answered.

"You haven't said a word to me." Andre said. "I'm starting to feel a bad vibe."

"It's nothing like that, Dre. I wanted to tell her about the team... that's all."

"Well, congrats. I didn't even know." He said. "You two are friends?" He asked. "Yes, well I assume so, she's cool." I answered.

Andre stared at me. His sadness was now irritation. He looked over at Jae. Jae shunned him, unbothered. Her head didn't even turn.

"Andre." I called.

Andre shook his head. "I'm cool, bruh, listen to Mr. Davis." Andre sat back and looked elsewhere.

I stared at him, baffled... what the actual hell. I exhaled and leaved him be.

Now that I have Asia's number, I could text her as much as I wanted. I wasn't one to harass another's cell, but I did double text. The females I liked received that treatment.

There was track this evening. I chatted with Makena before I left for the locker room. As I was about to enter, I collided with someone.

I exhaled on the floor and saw that it was Asia. "Damn, two in a row, mamas." I said, assisting her with standing.

Asia held her head. "This is ridiculous."

"You ok tho?" I asked. "I'm fine." I observed Asia and noticed something. "That's interesting." I said.

Asia was in a cheerleader uniform.

"How's this interesting?" Asia asked, looking down. "You earned that uniform faster than others, it takes at least two weeks."

"The team likes me a'lot." Asia said.

I don't blame them, those dance moves were fire.

"How do I look?" Asia asked, twirling her skirt.

"Good as hell, mamas." I said, checking her out. I wasn't holding back. Asia beamed. "Good luck in there." I added. "Thanks." I watched Asia leave. I whistled at her, but she didn't hear.

I met with the team. Coach Benson had us running 1v1 races. The big dawgs, Josiah and I, were last to run.

While the others raced, I stood beside Desirae. "You can tell Mr. Hudson I won't be coming." I told her.

"And what's the reason?" Desirae asked. "You know the reason." Desirae scoffed. "Asia." I nodded with a smile, that's the one.

"I still haven't seen what she looks like." Desirae stated. "You will later."

"Oh, I can't wait!" Desirae shrieked with sarcasm. "Girl." I said, staring her down, unamused.

Coach Benson blew his whistle. "Castro! Hackett!" He shouted. "The track's free!"

"Come on, hot wheels." Josiah stated, calling me over. "Let's do this shit."

He and I walked to the starting line. "You want to bet like last time?" I asked.

The last time he and I raced, I smoked his ass and won 20 dollars.

Josiah shook his head. "I'd rather kill old habits." I smiled. "Heard."

Josiah and I braced the starting blocks. The whistle blew. We raced the 80m.

Josiah left me in the dust. I felt so ashamed.

He excelled during vacation and it showed. Good for him. I knew I had to come back better.
