JADE
The track meets commenced later in the week. I missed the hell out of them. I did some training during summer, but it's more fun doing it with a trusted team. We'd be meeting twice a week until the final semester.
In class, I wished Makena a safe trek home. I looked around for Asia, but her ass had bolted from the room. I went to the locker room and threw on some track attire.
As I walked down the hall, I heard music blasting from the gym and looked inside.
Asia was in there dancing for the cheerleaders and damn, did she have moves. The broad was skilled and had no endurance to run, but endurance to dance? I was mad shocked.
Solana, who was seated on the bleachers, turned her head and noticed me watching. Oh, fuck. I dashed down the hall. Man, she better not think I'm a sicko or some shit.
I flew to the track and met with the team. Desirae was there. Our team had twelve members in all.
"You're taking a head start, hot wheels?" Josiah, the team leader, asked.
"Nah, man. I'm cooling." I said, breathing hard. Josiah smiled. Desirae rolled her orbs at me. I stared her down, baffled, the hell was that for?
Coach Benson walked over. "Welcome back, team. You've been free for weeks, but now's the time to concentrate and focus on our aim. Winning the state tournament. It seems like a'lot, but I know we can make it. He who tries can." He said. "Now, since we're all here, we can start. You know the drill." He blew a whistle.
The team formed two lines. I stood next to Desirae. Josiah led our stretches. We followed.
"You know, since Asia and I are becoming familiar. You and Mak should too." I told Desirae.
"Y'all aren't even in the talking stage." Desirae said. "Who said Asia's interested?"
"No one, we aren't there, but I'd like to be."
"You're over Solana?"
"I don't think about her as much as I used to." I said. "Hmm." Desirae stared at me, unconvinced. "I don't believe that."
"What? Nah, Des, what the fuck. I don't. I swear. I'd like to know Asia better."
"We'll see how that ends." Desirae said. I scoffed. "You're sure she doesn't like Andre? It looks so to me." Desirae said.
"I don't know. I'm not feeling a vibe that she does, but... I don't know." I said, unsure. "Hm. Don't fret about Mak and I. I won't let her slither into someone else's arms."
I smiled and let her be.
Coach Benson blew his whistle. Josiah led us in a trot around the track.
An hour later, we returned to the lockers and switched clothes.
I wondered if Asia was still around and looked to Desirae. "I'll be outside in a few." Her dad drove us home after track.
Desirae didn't bother her small head with the reason and shooed me. I left and headed to the gym, looking inside. No one was there.
"You looking for someone?" I heard a female ask. I turned around and saw Solana with her arms crossed, staring me down. Her brows raised, waiting for me to answer.
"I'm not." I said. "You're a terrible liar."
"It doesn't matter." I said, starting to leave. Solana blocked me. "You've been acting odd ever since our last conversation."
"You don't want me, duh." I said.
Is she for real?
"That doesn't mean we can't be friends or at least still be intimate. I liked what we had, Jae." I exhaled. "You're driving me insane."
"At least think about it." Solana said. I stared at her with no answer. I don't want to think about it.
"Jae?"
"I heard, I heard." I said, wanting her to leave me alone.
Solana smiled and kissed me on the cheek twice. I stood there like a fool and took them.
If there was one decent trait about her, it's that she was mad affectionate. I liked that side.
Solana vacated the hall. I watched her leave in that little cheer uniform and breathed out. I can't believe I made her wear that in nudes.
