{CONTINUATION OF CHAP. SEVEN}
"I think I'll eat alone." I told Makena as we walked down the hall.
I was in such a bad fucking mood, I wanted to be alone... silent.
"You're off the rails, man." Makena said. "You ain't moving cool at all. I don't like this."
"It is what it is." I said.
Makena exhaled and turned around, leaving me.
MAKENA
This is mad ludicrous. Jae doesn't even want to unveil shit. I'll leave her alone for now, she needs to recall who the fuck she is 'cause this ain't working.
I texted Desirae and told her to meet me at the water cooler. I wanted a drink.
I went over there and found her leaning on the wall. "That was swift." I said. "...well, it seemed dire, so..." Desirae said.
"I understand." I drank some water. Desirae cleared her throat. "You want some?" I asked.
"Yes." Desirae halted. "I mean no, now tell me what's the issue."
"Ok, more for me then." I said, finishing the water. I told her what Jae did. Her brows were in the air. "Jae?" Desirae asked. "Our sweet, but dumb friend?"
"Man, don't do her like that." I said at her defense. "Jae hasn't acted like this since Solana broke her heart. You think Asia did the same?"
"I doubt. It doesn't seem like it. I mean, she would've told us." I said. "That's true." Desirae conceded.
I breathed out. "Her ass can't act like this the whole week. At some instance, she has to talk." Desirae nodded. Her stomach rumbled.
"You didn't hear that." Desirae stated. "Hear what?" I acted oblivious.
Desirae beamed. Her and I left to eat lunch at the bench. Jae was nowhere to be found.
ASIA
I knew I was being shunned, but for what reason? This shit was bothering me because how the fuck were we talking all sweet over the weekend to now having a random case of silent treatment. It was weird.
I told Andre and his friends I needed to use the bathroom and left the canteen.
In truth, I was heading outside to the bench Jae and her friends dined. On the route there, I came across a dude tussling to collect his items off the floor. His bag was torn at the bottom.
I observed him and leant a hand. He looked at me. "You don't have to." He said.
"I don't mind." I said, holding his items. "You need a new bag." I added. "I'm working on it." He said.
When he stood, he was tall as hell. I was a rabbit and he was a damn tree.
"I'm Marcus." He said, taking his stuff. "You?"
"Asia." I answered. "You're a senior, correct?"
"I am."
"Oh, cool." He smiled. "Me, too."
He was handsome.
"Thanks for the assist." Marcus said. "You're welcome." I said, leaving.
I made it outside and walked to the bench. I saw Desirae and Makena talking.
"Hi, where's Jae?" I asked. The duo looked at me. "Off eating lunch somewhere." Makena answered. "We don't know her location." Desirae added.
It seems I'm not alone in being blindsided.
Desirae stared at me. "Y'all fell off or something?"
"No, we're still cool... I think." I answered.
"Hm." Desirae sounded, sharing looks with Makena. "Well, whatever the hell this is, I'm sure she'll come to her senses." Makena told me. "Yeah... thanks." I went back to the canteen.
I won't look for her, she still has to return to class.
The bell screamed and we were back in class. I walked in and saw Jae with her head on the desk.
I exhaled and sat down. Our classes were in motion until three. Before I could even reach or utter a word to Jae, she stormed out of class on her own. It was absurd. I can't believe I wanted to walk home with her.
Andre stood close to me. "You want a ride home? I have free time." I looked at him. "...ok."
Andre smiled, stretched his arm around me, and walked me out of class.
