"Hi!" I said as I caught up to Lizzy who was standing outside her house.
"Hi honey, how are you holding up, huh?" she asked with a sympathetic smile.
"I'm okay, I guess. Have been better you know. We kinda broke up after school yesterday, I think you saw us talking? But he also said we could hang out, maybe we'll come back together after a while, who knows?" I said with a grimace.
"Such a stupid, stupid, stupid thing! Why should people lose their memory? It's so pathetic!" I had to smile, Lizzy is too cute. I looked at her as we made our way to school, and noticed something that I should have noticed ages ago. She looked sad, she had dark circles around her eyes, and looked so very tired.
"Lizzy... what is it?" I asked. She noticed my serious voice.
"What?" she asked, trying to pretend like nothing was wrong. Her eyes didn't spark like they used to, and she looked a little grey.
"You can tell me everything, you know," I said. She looked deeply into my eyes.
"Not yet," she said, and I nodded. I won't forget though.
We arrived at school just in time, and I ran off to science. The hour was so long, and all I could think about was Lizzy. What's wrong with her? She practically looked terrible, I feel like such a bad friend for not noticing before!
"Ms McLaine, can you repeat what I said?" Mr Farren asked. I looked blankly at him. "I thought so..." and then he started talking about science again, and I pretended to pay attention.
The hour was finish and I went to my locker to get my books when I saw Mr Loren pulling Lizzy behind him, obviously with a pretty hard grip around her arm. Damn, no one treats my Lizzy like that! I couldn't help but follow.
"I understand perfectly if you don't want to talk to me about it, but then tell Katie! Or the school nurse for that matter!" Mr Loren said with an angry voice.
"Tell me what?" I asked as I stepped around the corner to the empty corridor. The teacher was leaning towards Lizzy who pressed her back to the wall, looking pale. "Oh, here you are, the super detective!" the teacher said sarcastically.
"Eaten a lemon have we?" I asked. "Now tell me what I have missed," I commanded.
"As you obviously haven't noticed, you best friend here is not okay, but she refuse to tell what it is. She has been sleeping in all my lessons lately, and other teacher's lessons too and that is not like her!" Mr Loren explained.
"Have you heard about asking, before assuming?" I asked coldly. "I did ask her just this morning what was wrong!" That took him a little off guard.
"Okay, so you know it then, good," he pulled his arm away from the wall, and was about to turn around.
"I didn't tell her," Lizzy said with a tired voice.
"Why?" he asked.
"I don't know, I don't know what to tell," she admitted.
"What do you mean?" he asked.
"Well, I don't know what's wrong. I hardly sleep, and when I do, I have terrible nightmares. I've felt like fainting from time to time too I just... yeah I don't know," she said and shook her head. I laid my hand on her should and squeezed it.
"Okay... you know what? I think we shall bring you to the nurse right away. Just so that she can take some blood, and send it into a hospital, it sounds like you have too little iron in your blood," he said.
"That simple?" she asked.
"Simple? It's not. When you have too little iron in your blood you are constantly tired, you can feel dizzy, and maybe, as you describes, faint. It's not very dangerous or anything, but it's not fun," he said and shrugged.
