Meredith was awoken by a persistent beeping, Shit she thought rolling over to turn off her alarm clock. Molly her yellow lab jumped off the bed and ran downstairs to wait for Meredith to come feed her. She got out of bed and threw on a pair of leggings and a quarter zip jacket to go for her morning run. Meredith went downstairs and fed Molly, slipped on the purple leash, and ran outside. Hopefully my students don't hate me. What if I screw up? This could go wrong so fast.
Meredith just graduated college from Seattle Pacific University last spring and got a job at North Seattle Elementary school as a 3rd grade teacher. Albeit, she was excited but was still worried that her students would hate her. She would have a class of 22 so that wasn't too bad, but it was still enough that Meredith has been stressing about it the last 2 weeks.
Meredith finished her 3 mile run/jog with Molly and came back home to shower and prepare for her 1st day at North Seattle. She wore a dress, it wasn't fancy by any means but it was casual enough for Meredith's first day. She wore her favorite pair of white converse with it and had on a smidgen of makeup nothing like some women these days would wear on a regular basis. Meredith was a simple 24 year old woman who has of course dated a few men over the years, but nothing ever felt right with any of them. She grabbed her keys and headed out the door, but she had to stop at the little cafe just a few blocks from the school first for a cup of coffee.
I have exactly 14 minutes to get this cup of coffee. That leaves me 30 minutes to spend alone in my classroom before this herd of third graders comes running in off the bus. "I'll have a regular cup of black coffee, please," Meredith told the barista. She then paid and waited for her coffee. After a few minutes the barista handed her coffee and Meredith was out the door counting down the amount of time she had left to be on her schedule. *Whack* "You have got to be kidding me right now," Meredith said as she just ran into a guy. I take that back a really really hot guy. "I am so sorry," Meredith said. "I will be back with some paper towels," Meredith came running back out to clean up the mess, "I seriously can't believe I did this. What the hell was I doing I'm on time anyways. Why would I be staring at the my phone. I am so stu-" she was cut off from her rambling. "It's fine, I will buy you another one, what'd you have?" the man asked. "Oh, um I uh had just a regular cup of black coffee," Meredith said nervously. "I'm Derek by the way, Derek Shepherd. And you are?" he said holding out his hand. Meredith was obviously lost in that head of black curls and piercing blue eyes. "Oh, I'm Meredith Grey," she said shaking his. As soon as their hands met an electric current seemed to run between the two.
Derek went back inside to get Meredith's coffee and brought it back to her. "Thank you so much, sorry again about the coffee incident," she said accepting the coffee. "It was no problem, nice to meet you," he said walking to his car. He's...wow. Damnit Meredith you can't be falling for a guy, you have school to worry about. He's so handsome though. Ugh. Meredith seemed to be arguing with herself all the way to school that morning. She couldn't stop thinking about that gorgeous man she dumped her coffee on this morning.
"Well, good morning class I'm Miss Grey. I will be teaching you from this day forward for the next 180 days," she began. A loud eruption of 'Hi's' came from the class. She explained to them what all they would be learning this year and gave them a syllabus to go over with them. "Make sure these papers I have handed out get returned to me signed please," Meredith said emphasizing the signed and handing out the papers.
"She seems nice, this could be interesting," Anna said turning around to Morgan behind her. "We could get away with several pranks with this one," Morgan replied.
Anna was a short haired blonde, she came from a wealthy family. Always taking her out and going on family trips. All in all she was a spoiled brat. Her best friend has been Morgan since they began kindergarten together. They both participate in the same activities and have gotten along well over the years. They both happen to be drama queens and troublemakers too.
Morgan on the other hand has divorced parents and doesn't see her dad except for the occasional holiday. She stays with her mom when she isn't working and then her grandma when she needs too. Her Uncle has been the only father figure in her life. Morgan doesn't mind though, she has been able to form a tight bond with him.
Once the 3:30 bell rang all the kids headed out to the bus and Meredith tidied up her classroom, "Hey how'd the first day go?" Alex said walking in. "It was fine, I have these 2 girls though, Morgan and Anna. They were talking quite a bit, they seem like little troublemakers. How was yours?" Meredith said. "Well, it was fine those 5th graders think they rule the school now though, you know how that is." he said rolling his eyes. "Well, I need to get home, I'll see you tomorrow though." Meredith said smiling. "See you later Mer," Alex said walking out.
Alex Karev is Meredith's best friend, they watch out for each other and are always there for each other. It's like a brother-sister relationship. There has never been any chemistry, because, well that would just be awkward for the two of them. They just happened to get lucky enough to teach at the same school. Alex is also dating Izzie Stevens, the school nurse. She's older than them by a few years but we all have became pretty close. It's kind of nice to see them everyday now.
The first day was pretty smooth for Meredith, but she couldn't stop thinking about Derek. Damnit. I should've gotten his number. Was all she could think to herself, for now she would just have to rely on fate...
