Chapter 19
The Meeting - Part IMy eyes flutter open, seeing an unfamiliar ceiling, painted in light green paint. I look to my side, and see there are other beds, without people sleeping in it. Curtains hung loosely, blocking the rays of the sun from seeping through the big open windows. Birds chirp a little loudly, as if they are having a mini Glee going on with their kind, having fun without having to worry about anything. My head slumps back to the soft pillow, feeling the white duvet wrapped around me. Warm and cotton. I smile to myself, feeling happy and contented. Even though the room is pretty unfamiliar to my eyes, it doesn't bother me. At all. The room smells like a mixed combination of coffee and newly baked bread. My stomach grumbles.
Beside each bed, is a desk with a flower vase on top. Sunflowers. The wind blows, entering the room and the curtains fly calmly. It makes my skin tingles, as if someone is touching my skin lightly. Over the window, I can almost see the background, I can almost hear the children playing happily. It could be just my mind playing tricks on me.
As if on queue, my brain displays the images of past events. Rogues. Dave. Thick silver fur wolf. That wolf has had saved me once, and he did it again. I jolt up, alert and panicky. Dave. I need to see Dave. Once I move, I decide that it's a dumb decision. Now do I realize that my arm has a white bandage wrapped around it, now I feel the pain and I groan out loud.
A lady, who it seems to be like she's in her late twenties, dressed in a floral pink and white dress, knee level, a white sandals to match her attire, has come inside, a box in her hands. Her dark hair is tied into a ponytail, bouncing as she walks in my direction. She seems like the kind of girl you would see in the library instead of wild parties; living room watching National Geographic channel instead of blasting rock music through her ears; eating cookies than eating meats. When she sees me wide awake, she scurries a bit faster, places the box on the desk and puts the back of her hand on my forehead, shaking her head a bit.
"You have a fever," she says in a soft tone, getting a pill in the box that she has brought with her. I look at her incredulously, thinking what this girl motive is. I just dealt with the Rogues. She could be one for all I know. But she seems very nice. "Here, take this pill with a glass of water. I'll get you some."
"Uh, okay," unsure, I scratch my cheek nervously and look elsewhere but her. "Where am I? And my brother Dave?"
"The guy who was with you?" She asks curiously, tilting her head to the side.
"Yes,"
"Oh, he's outside... playing with the pup - children,"
I sigh in relief, slumping back down on the bed. Relaxation is all I need, and I sure can get it here.
"By the way, I'm Beige, one of the healers." She introduces herself and bows, as if I'm upper than her and she's lower than me, as if I am some kind of royalty and she is nothing but a slave. Her hair falls as she bows in front of me. I blush at the action and motion for her to stand up straight, which she does immediately.
Clearing my throat out, I smile at her, still unsure. "I'm Kieran."
"I know," she claims, smiling widely at me. She knows? She knows me? "We have been keeping an eye on you, sir Kieran." When she calls me sir, I feel like I'm part of an organization that people look upon. I blush, which makes her chuckle.
"Are you a doctor?" I ask curiously, remembering her words. One of the healers.
Beige looks up, putting a finger on her chin and her free arm rests on her hips. "You could say that." I chuckle at her adorableness. Her brown eyes, round and sparkly, light up as she hears my laugh. "You have a pretty good laugh, cute." I blush again at the compliment.
