Chapter 20
The Meeting Part IIWhen my eyes meet his, it's like almost all of the functions of my body have stopped. Here I am, faced to faced with the man who broke me, who rejected me, who broke my heart, and I'm stuck staring at him. The world disappears as we continue to stare at each other. Somehow, somewhat, his stare has an effect on me. Those eyes are captivating at all, and I'm getting lured by it. The wind blows past us, making Cloud's hair fly to the side, eyes not breaking from mine. As his eyes hold mine, every sound around us fades, and only the beating of my heart and his can be heard.
Then, as if my hand has a mind of its own, my hand collides with his face, sending him on the floor. He groans, clutching his nose that my hand has hit. I'm angry at him, at myself, and this is my way of paying back. Cloud looks at me in shock, blood trickling down his nose as he stops it from bleeding. The Alpha Wolf is trying to come out. I just hit the Great Alpha! Of course the wolf would be mad. His chestnut eyes are turning into fiery gold, and I'm sure that Cloud is trying to suppress the wolf from coming out. When his eyes become the fiery gold, my breath hitches, the wolf has completely taken over Cloud, and I know that I'm dead. But the fiery gold eyes have become dull and sad, regretful and you can see all the pain that they have gone through. Which I don't want to believe. Then it turns back to his chestnut eyes. Cloud stands up again, hoisting himself up with his hands, then he looks down on me as he gains height.
"I'm sorry," whispers Cloud, so low that I barely heard it. But I did. And it makes me feel mad again, so mad that I just want to hurt him again and again until I feel better. "I'm sorry for everything."
I block out his apologies. I don't want to hear any of it. When my eyes focus on the area around us, people are already watching us. This is a Pack's land! Of course, these people are wolves and those children are pups! They can tear me apart in just a heartbeat. Dave is looking at me with shocked eyes, as if he has never seen me punched someone before. I did, to a couple of people. But I only punch people if I'm really mad, and this time, I am. My chest heaves up and down, from anger, and my breathing is uneven.
Like I have done before, even though I'm barefooted, I run. People part way, giving me a way, and I take that as an opportunity to keep running, to avoid him. I don't want to see him. I'm not ready yet. As I run, I hear Cloud shouting my name. I reach the wilderness and head further. My feet keep pounding the ground, every step adding a numbness on each leg. The air is beginning to run out of my lungs. I feel tired and exhausted, and I have a feeling that my fever is going to get worst.
Then the air has been knocked out of me as I fall onto the ground. At first, I think that I just stepped onto something that made me trip over, but then a huge body hugged me, sending us both on the ground, making each one groan in pain. When I lift my head up, my eyes zoom into the sight in front of me. Silver thick fur wolf. The wolf that has had saved me twice in my life. The silver wolf shrug the dirt off and tilts his head, looking at me. His fiery gold eyes are staring at me, paws ready on the ground in case I run off again. But I can't. I'm captivated, trapped into the eyes of the wolf that has been staring at me. The wolf takes a step forward, but I can't take a step back. My feet are glued on the ground, my eyes focused on the wolf in front of me. Once the wolf is near, the wolf snuggles me, purring and I feel scared again.
"Wh - wha - what are you doing?" I ask, stuttering as the wolf keeps purring and rubbing his body around my legs. "Stop that." The wolf looks up at me and pushes me with his big paws and I fall on the ground, making me groan again. The wolf puts his big paws on either side of my head as his body is on top of me, trapping me. The wolf tilts his head again, as if curious. Then the wolf begins to shrink, slowly transforming into a man, and that man is no other than the Alpha himself; Cloud Alistair Lyleson. I clench my hands again, ready to punch him, but the fact that he doesn't wear enough clothes to cover his chest and groin is enough to make me blush and stop what I'm about to do.
"Kieran, please, hear me out." Cloud begs, leaning down as he cups my face in his hands, looking straight into my eyes, chestnut eyes to mine. "Please, don't run. Don't go." The pain in his voice, I can't stand it. I can't stand it at all. It's like I'm being toyed again, and I'm willing to be toyed, to be a fool.
Tears well up in my eyes, ready to spill, but this time, I don't stop it. Instead, I let myself cry, once again, with the same reason, for the same man. My clenched hands begin hitting his chest, but it does not hurt him. It does not have an effect on him. I want him to see and feel what I've been through. I'm so angry that I don't care that he's an Alpha, that he's thousand times stronger than me; a mere weak human. Cloud lets me hit him, doing nothing to stop me. What he does instead shock me and make me cry harder. He hugs me tightly, burying his face in the crook of my neck.
His scent invades my nostrils, tickling my nose, which makes me smell him more. He smells like vanilla and dark chocolate combined, my favorite. His skin against mine, it burns, leaving me breathless and wanting to push him into me more. But as much as I want this, I am starting to loathe myself, for being so kind and open-minded, for being so weak.
Weak.
I don't know how many times I've said I'm weak. Maybe a hundred times, or more than? I don't have a guess. The tears have stopped from rolling down my cheeks, and I don't have enough tears to pour out. Maybe, for living 18 years of my life, I spent it on, mostly, crying. It could be the reason. That, or I just kept crying until it ran out.
"Why can't I hate you?" I ask through gritted teeth, suddenly having a massive headache. "Why can't I hate you for all what you've done to me? For rejecting me, you little piece of shit!"
Cloud's arms tighten around me, as if he's afraid to let me go, as if he's afraid that I'd go, which I would definitely do in a heartbeat if he just let go of his arms around me.
"Why must I encounter you again?" I thrash around, hoping that he would let me go, but unfortunately, he doesn't. It just makes him keep his arms around me secured and tight. "I blame everything to you! Furion had decided his fate because of you! Furion decided to let go of me and I obliged! It was because of you! And now, Furion is being haunted by some fucking dark whatever! His spirit is in danger because of you! And I don't know how to help him..."
"Shh," Cloud hums, leaning up and looking at me straight in the eyes. He looks pained and sad, and I see tears are pooling up in his eyes, but he wipes it away with the back of his hand. "I'll help you find Furion. I'm really sorry for everything, and I'll do whatever it takes to find Furion... for you." Then as if the dam has just been broken, tears spill out of his eyes, teardrops falling onto my face. "I'm so fucking regretting what I put you through. After you left, it was a nightmare for me, it still is. I... I... fuck, I don't really know what to say. I messed up really bad. Fucking real bad. Fuck, fuck, fuck..."
Seeing him like this, crying, looking vulnerable, pained and all, my heart clenches at the sight in front of me. I just want to wrap my arms around him. The need to protect him, to help him, it nags me. But I fight against it. If he wants to earn my forgiveness, though I've already forgiven him, he better do the right things.
