CHAPTER 20 <3

As we entered through the school gates, we could all see how much effort they had put in. The walls were covered with fake, hairy spiders and dusty cobwebs. The doors were wide open, so we just stepped inside and followed the muffled sound of cheesy pop anthems.

Through another set of doors was the ball. Our whole year group had shown up, plus all of the sophomores. I felt slightly claustrophobic. My hopes of the party being cooler than the flyer had suggested were met though. Orange and black lights danced among the students. Skeletons, pumpkins, cauldrons, spiders, broomsticks, glitter, and cobwebs littered the hall, a few pumpkins looked like they'd had bite marks in them. Someone must have been really hungry to want to eat raw pumpkin skin.

A massive bowl of (hopefully non-alcoholic) fruit punch was situated in the far corner along with a few selections of chips and nibbles. They all had labels on them. Ignoring the booming music around me, I made a beeline straight for the food, my stomach growling in agreement. I had a couple of DEAD MAN'S FINGERS (mini cocktail sausages) and a few WITCH'S EAR WAX (cheese cubes) before I felt more satisfied. I went back to find Justin dancing with two nurses. Well, I say nurses, I mean two fourteen year olds in a bit of blue material with a red cross on a little white hat they'd obviously got their mom's to make them. They were both giggling at him, moving their hips and grinding up against him. They didn't know who he was, but they seemed happy enough dancing there in their short little skirts. Bit slutty if you asked me but whatever. I turned to try and look for the others when I walked straight into someone's bare chest. I feel my cheeks burn.

“Oh, I'm so sorry. I-”

“It's okay, you look pretty hot in that costume though, Ash.”

Trust Ben to go as a topless butler. Jerk. His pale body almost blinds me as different colour lights rebound off it into my eyes. He's like a crappier Edward Cullen/Robert Pattinson. (Have you seen his chest? Ew.) Ben's still looking at me whilst the music blares through my ears. Has it always been this loud? Oh geez. I'm going to faint. I'm going to fall right onto him.

But suddenly I felt a cold chill down my back, which turned into burning. My mouth opened wide and I did a little dance to get whatever was causing this to stop, which must've looked weird. Ben widened his eyes at me before rushing off with the excuse: “I need the bathroom.”

Good riddance. The rest of the, now tiny, ice cube dropped onto the floor. I turned around to try and pin point the person who has done this before coming face-to-face with a furry nose. It nudged me cheekily.

“You looked like you needed cooling down.”

“You're on of the most annoying people I know, Justin Bieber. But at least you got me out of that situation, even if you had to do it in the most embarrassing way possible.”

The music flipped to Michael Jackson's Thriller. Oh no please don't let-

“THAT'S MY JAM!” I hear Justin scream from inside his costume. He rushes into the middle of the hall. Everyone slowly clears a space for the massive beaver, all staring in awe as he did the thriller dance move-by-move. A spotlight appeared out of nowhere, it's beaming light gazing at Justin. Basically, it was exactly like the scene in 13 going on 30, where it started with just him, and then someone else joined in for the laughs. Then someone else, until the whole hall was filled with everyone doing it. Someone must've filmed it, it'd be illegal not to, considering it was all started by a woodland creature. In the end, I gave it a go myself. The song finished and everyone was just stood there laughing, breathless. It really was an ice breaker, the whole party was in full swing now.

“ASH! COOEEYYY!” I heard Carla squeal from behind me. I turned around to see her brightly coloured jumpsuit bob towards me, her blue hair flying everywhere. Jade was nowhere to be seen. Attached to her hand seemed to be quite an unhappy footballer, he had a few painted on stitches but I guess he didn't decide to want to make an effort. Matt just looked like he'd turned up for a game.
