Chapter Twenty Nine
Waking up to Justin Bieber doing a squeaky out of tune version of 'O Christmas Tree' isn't the best thing to listen to so early on Christmas morning. Which was probably why he deserved that pillow to his face. Okay, maybe it was harder than usual but I am not a morning person, regardless of festive activities or not.
“Yowch. You have good aim when you're cranky.” He remarked as he rubbed his eye, which resulted in another hit. “Merry Christmas to you too, Yeti.”
“Who let you in to my house?” I groaned, opening my eyes slowly, squinting in the sunlight to reveal a boy with brown swoopy hair, smiling dumbly at me.
“Your wonderful mom, of course. Now get up stinky so we can enjoy Christmas!” Justin poked me in the face, but this time he was careful, incase another pillow missile was thrown at him. Man, I swear that boy wants to get beaten up. “Great job mom. Now, please go downstairs or something and I'll be down in ten minutes okay?” I looked pointedly at him, raising an eyebrow. Justin saluted me. “Yes M'am.”
“Don't take the piss out of me.” “No M'am.” I sighed. “Just leave.” “Yes m'-” “GO!” I barked, which made him scuttle out of the room giggling. Gee, I am cranky this morning. So much for festive spirit. **** After a quick shower, I got changed. The water had woken me up more, so I wasn't stumbling around as much. I could hear Christmas music coming from downstairs, and a lot of laughing, so decided to follow it. The smell of cinnamon hit my nose almost instantly when I entered the kitchen. Tinsel was draped across the chairs and all the furniture. Aw. Mom had made an effort. Justin was sat at the table with Pattie and Mom, also dressed in tinsel. They all turned to me, smiling happily. “Morning Ash!” They all chorused, except for Justin, who said Yeti. “Hey everyone! Merry Christmas!” I beamed at mom and Pattie, sending daggers to Justin. “Your presents are under the tree, so I don't know whether you...” I paused. Mom cut in. “It's fine, honey, we're all staying her for dinner, so Justin's grandparents are coming along.” Justin grinned at me, giving me the thumbs up, which I returned. I love his grandparents.
“You can just keep them there until this evening.” I nodded, twitching my nose. “What's for breakfast? Smells like cinnamon.” “Waffles.” Pattie announced brightly. “My little baby made them himself” She ruffled Justin's hair whilst he tried to bat her away. “Aw come on mom, knock it off.” I licked my lips hungrily. “Boy, I'm starving.” I grabbed a plate from the cupboard and held it out expectantly. He dumped a couple of waffles onto my plate, coated in cinnamon. On the table in-between the tinsel was a bottle of good old maple syrup. I dumped that sucker on there like there was no tomorrow. They all sat with me, and we all ate together, a comfortable air of chatter coming over all of us. I offered to wash up all the plates for everyone so they could hang out in the living-room. Biebs offered to help me so I tossed him the rubber gloves and found a towel for myself. “You wash, I dry.” He sighed. “I knew I'd end up doing this.” “Quit whining and get on with it, celebrity. You have to experience the hard life sometimes.” I whipped him with the towel. “Oh gosh, a bit of waffle just fell into the glove.” He groaned, gingerly shaking the rubber until a piece fell out onto the floor. He kicked it under the table in one swift motion, sending me into giggles. “Serves you right for not eating it all.” “Whatever...” he muttered. Once he'd finished messing around, we got everything clean pretty quickly. Doing our separate duties seemed to work out. We were finished in no time. The final soap sud was wiped off Justin's face, down the sink, the dishes were clean, his eyes met mine challengingly. “So did you buy enough presents?” He asked. “Yeah like I said, they're under the tree-” I started, but he interrupted. “I know that, I mean the small presents for the boy/girl game.” “Huh?” “The game we always play at Christmas! Where you roll a dice until all the presents are given out, blue presents for boys, pink presents for girls. Remember?” “Oh Crap...” I think, biting my lip. “You're lucky I'm the only one with the brain, I brought twice as many presents.” He grins at me. I breathe out, relieved. “Thanks Biebs, you're okay sometimes I guess.” The evening came around pretty quickly. Mom and Pattie were running around the kitchen trying to get things done in time, even though there weren't as many people coming round, for example, I have no idea where my dad is so he wont be turning up. Justin's dad, Jeremy said he'd come over with his wife and two kids for a bit, which Justin is excited about. His grandparents were already here, and we'd already said our greetings to them and stuff. That was all we were expecting for this year, only a small get together. Not surprisingly, Justin had found a headband in which he could stick some mistletoe on it, so it was dangling there on his forehead. He kept running up to me, waggling his eyebrows and making smoochy faces which I laughed at. He's such a dork sometimes. Finally, after everyone had pulled their crackers, said grace, and absorbed everything that was on the dining-room table, we staggered onto the couches, unbuckling our jeans slightly to let our stomachs breathe. Someone switched the television on, which was showing the film 'Home Alone'. I love that film so my eyes were glued to the screen. “Grandma, you make the best potatoes.” Justin finally announced quietly, rolling around on the other end of the couch as if he were about to burst. I jab him slightly with my sock-covered foot, which ends up turning into a foot war. I was going to win. “Thank-you sweetie!” The corners of her eyes crinkled with pride. She was sat in the corner seat next to Grandpa (Who was sound asleep). Mom and Pattie were in the kitchen washing up before extra presents were given out. “There's extra if you want some more...” You could almost see Justin start to turn green. “Uh, no thanks. If I eat anything else I think I might explode.” He pats his stomach. “Well make sure you clean it up afterwards.” I grin at him, baring my teeth. “We know what you're like with mess.” Grandma nods. “Uh huh, she's right.” Justin pouts. “Stop ganging up on me you two! I'm not gonna actually explode.” “I wouldn't be surprised.” I murmured. He gives me a look. I couldn't take him seriously, though, as he was wearing the mistletoe headband still, the leaves dangling in his face. He must've realised as a playful smirk crossed his face. -knock knock knock Justin's eyes lit up. “They're here!” He whispers, dashing up before anyone else can get a word in edgeways. “I'LL GET IT!” He yells into the kitchen before swinging open the front door. The first voice I hear is a little girl's. “Bieber! Bieber!” She squeals with joy. I jump up from my seat to go check what's going on. Standing in the doorway was Justin's dad and his wife, who had a small boy in his arms. Justin already had his little sister in a massive hug. “Jazzy! How are you, princess?” He snuggles with her for a little bit, before putting her back down again and reaching for the baby. Meanwhile, Justin's dad had made his way into the lounge, shrugging off his coat and greeting the grandparents with an outstretched arm. I moved into the corner, suddenly shy. I wasn't sure what he was really like considering I hadn't met him that much, but as soon as he looked at me, a warm smile lightened up his face. “You must be Ash! I've heard a lot about you. I'm Jeremy!” Instead of shaking my hand, he gave me a hug which left me grinning from ear to ear. I wasn't nervous anymore. “Hopefully it's all good stuff, sir.” He waved his hand at me, dismissing my comment. “Oh come on, you don't needa call me sir. We're all family here. If anything, call me Jere.” “Okay...Jere.” I giggled. He smiled back at me, before indicating over to the door where Justin was still hugging everyone. “That's my wife Erin, and my two kids -Justin's brother and sister- Jaxon and Jazmine. Now, where's the lovely Pattie?” Justin had told me in one of our deep talks that even though his parents had split up, they were still like best friends, which was really nice. I would be happier with that arrangement, too be honest. But never mind. “She's in the kitchen with my mom, want me to go get her?” “No it's fine, I'll do it. You come meet my children!”
Justin walks into the room with Jaxon in his arms, followed by Erin and Jazmine.
With more confidence, I go up to Erin. “Hello! I'm Ashleigh.” I smile at her, before looking down to Jazmine. “And you must be Jazzy!” The small girl nods her head shyly, hugging her mom's leg. She had short caramel colored hair and Justin's eyes. Definitely a bieber. Oh god, he's spreading. Justin came to join us and I noticed Jaxon also had the same gorgeous chocolatey-brown eyes that were so big you almost felt like you might drown in them. He was really cute. Erin grinned back at me. “Hey Ashleigh! I'm Erin. Jere said we could stop by for a bit to wish you all a merry christmas, you have a lovely home.”
I beamed with pride. “Why thankyou, come and sit down!”
Erin shifted her presents retrieved from the car outside under the tree. There was a few in bright red, shiny wrapping paper and then a few small pink and blue ones. How come everyone knew about this game but me?! By the time everyone had sorted themselves out and were sat on the floor surrounded by the gifts, all of us together, joking about whilst the tv was going on in the background and the fire was blazing. It had started to get really dark so we got on with the game. Embarrassingly, Justin had announced to everyone that we were sharing our presents because I didn't get any, but no one seemed that fussed so it was alright. We all swapped small presents and opened them together. They were things like yoyos, notepads, stick on tattoos and stuff. Grandpa looked very humored to have gotten a whoopie cushion from Justin, by then proceeding to use it on grandma when she wasn't looking. The results were hilarious, by the way. After everything else had been opened, I ripped open my present from Justin, which was an ugly sweater. And by ugly I mean SERIOUSLY ugly. The ugliest ugly sweater ever. It was a hideous fluorescent pink colour with a picture of a snowman knitted into it. He may aswell stuck a croc on it or something. (Arbitrary reference to ugliness of crocs, don't be offended if you own a pair, as I do too. Sigh.) I tried to refrain a massive snort as I watched him open his present from me, as I had gotten him an ugly sweater too!
We both looked at each-other and burst out laughing as our families stared on fondly. “We're so similar, yeti.” He grinned at me, removing his mistletoe headband so he could pull his woolly sweater over his head. I did the same with mine. For our proper presents, I got him a loop machine he can use just in his room with his guitar, and he got me tickets to see Taylor Swift in concert!!!!!! Which was frickin' AMAZING. I love Taylor Swift so much. His sweater was definitely quite ruffled after i'd wrestled him into a hug. Mom had got me a new ipod and a voucher, it would definitely be filled up with Swift very soon. And biebs, of course. It was also small enough so I could fit it in my pocket without a hassle. This was the best christmas ever.
