Chapter Twenty Six

I woke up feeling much better, thankfully. Mom had left for work, leaving a few aspirins, a couple of bucks and a glass of water. No note of anything, so that’s great. I’ve just been left to fend for myself. If I hadn’t of been feeling better, I probably would be really pissed off right now, as I like having the attention when I’m ill. I’m surprised no flowers have arrived or cards from anyone yet. Probably stuck in the post I reckon. I managed to force myself up to have my first shower in ages, which felt so refreshing. I dried and straightened my hair, putting on my favourite outfit, considering all I’d been wearing all week was my PJs. Breakfast was great, as I kept my food down this time, which made me happy as Lucky Charms are the best thing to have on a boring day.

The doorbell rang, making me feel lucky that I’d gotten up. I rushed to open it and it was Austin.

He looked shocked that I’d opened the it, stepping back a bit. “Woah.” He breathed out, looking me up and down, making me feel slightly conscious of myself, blushing.

“You look amazing. Are you feeling better?”

“Thank you! And yeah, I’m feeling much better.” I smile at him.

“Good.” He launches forward, bringing me into a hug before kissing my cheek. “I wanted to come here and say sorry for being a jerk.” He says into my hair.

I almost fall to the floor, his voice making my legs feel like jelly.

“There’s really no excuse for that apart from my mom. I had a live concert the other day, and she said I couldn’t see you because I might get sick and not being able to do it, which would’ve been bad as it was my first one.”

I stare at him, mouth slightly open. “You had a live concert and you never told me about it?”

He held out a finger, one step ahead of me. “I figured you’d be too ill to come see it, seeing as you haven’t been heard of for about a week, so I got someone to record it professionally and burnt it for a CD for you.” He reached into his bag pulling out said CD.

I take it graciously. “Sweet! Okay, I forgive you.”

“That’s not all, I’m here to take you on a date, to sort of make up for not seeing you in so long.” He shifts himself awkwardly, looking at the floor. Aww.

“You didn’t have to! I totally understand, you know. But I will accept, as I do enjoy as being with each other.” I grin at him, grabbing my purse, coat, gloves and slamming the door.

“Same.” He holds out his hand, which I take.

“Where are we going then?” Austin seemed to have a good idea, since he was practically dragging me down the drive.

“We’re gonna go have a nice walk around the woods. Is that okay?” He looks at me expectantly.

I shiver slightly. “Yeah, that sounds good.”

“Are you cold? Do you want my jacket?”

I wave him away with my other hand. “Don’t be silly, I appreciate you being a gentleman and everything, but I don’t want you freezing your ass off.”

“Are you sure?”

“Sure.” I say determinedly.

We continued to walk in silence for a while, my thoughts pretty blank as I trod across the frosty leaves. It was freezing. I could feel my cheeks burn red as well as my nose, the rest of me ice cold.

Winter was definitely coming quickly, I couldn’t even move a step before a new wave of wind blew into my face, causing my teeth to chatter.

Austin brought me in closer, trying to warm me up.
