Chapter 2
Jayson was nice and gave me three days to work on final pile of documents. And all too soon, the dreaded Thursday seemed to have crept up. I spent the entire afternoon after work, doing my hair up and picking out a dress. Just a quick “Did You Know?” my entire wardrobe comes from the workplace. Apparently I have no taste. It was more like ‘I didn’t care anymore’.
I picked a strapless aquamarine dress with a flutter hem that went just above my knee. Chosing a matching aquamarine strappy heel off the shoe shelf and Chanel handbag along with my favourite white waterfall cardigan, I headed for the hotel.
Upon arriving, I could see that finding parking would be difficult. The seven storey car park was literally full. I guess this just goes to show how much business Thorne Hotel's actually get. In fact, any store, not just the hotels for that matter. I wonder how Kylie could afford to even hold something here. She must have married a pretty well off guy. I’m still single not that it matters. My life consists of work and work. No time for dating. Not that I wanted to.
After driving around for like forty minutes, my heart lifted as a spot came into view. I parked the car smoothly and slammed the door shut. Hobbling down from the fifth floor to the entrance of the hotel, I stopped short in awe as I saw the magnificent building. Gold exterior and interior with a glass wall for the bottom floor that was crystal clean and a revolving door was situated in the middle of this very wide and high building’s bottom floor. Smexy.
I walked in and I could hear my heels clicking and clacking rhythmically across the glass floor. I loved that sound. I made me feel like I owned the world. As I made my way across to the elevators, I felt a pair of hands cover my eyes and spun around already knowing who it was.
“Mish!” I laughed and gave her a hug.
“Reni! It’s so good to see you again.” She squealed as I gave her a quick one over. Bright orange cocktail dress and mismatched heels. Her long layered blonde bob was styled perfectly and her hazel eyes shone with excitement. The elevator opened with a ding and we stepped in.
“You know, you’re the only reason why I bother to come to every reunion. Diana and her friends just insult me every time.” I rolled my eyes at the thought.
“Well yeah, sorry for living all the way in another state. I’m really busy nowadays so I don’t really have time to come across the state to see you.” She grimaced ruefully.
“Mmm. So how’s Connor doing?” I asked as I counted down the number of levels left.
“Connor? He’s cute little thing. Cried all morning because I was leaving.” She grinned at the mention of her son.
“Awww.” I laughed. “So how come Kenneth didn’t come with you this time?” I stepped out of the elevator and glanced around before manoeuvring our way through the crowded hallways.
“Ahh. Kenneth said that a business deal was coming through and he had to stay. Connor went to work with him.”
“But isn’t Connor only like one?”
“Yeah. Kenneth’s leaving him in the nursery until I go back.” She looked around and frowned. “Hey Reni. Straight, left or right?” She grabbed me elbow and stopped in the middle of a four way intersection.
“Uhh. Left I think?” I looked to my left and frowned.
“Left it is then. C’mon.” She pulled me and began to run down the hallway. I looked back and apologized to every person she bumped up against. After running to the end of the hallway and another hallway and another, a squeal of triumph sounded.
