Chapter 30
I cupped the steaming mug of coffee as I sat behind my desk. Kyler had given my space, allowed me to leave his room as after our talk. At the airport, our exchange had been short, brief and worrying. He kissed the tip of my nose and whispered a soft goodbye before letting me go. The moment he let go of my hand, I felt a building uncertainty.
“Reni, call on line 5.” Hazel buzzed to me, shaking me out of my reverie. I picked up the phone and connected myself to the other end.
“Good afternoon, Serenity Taylor speaking. How may I help you?” I began automatically as I waited for the other side to speak.
“Serenity! I received your dress! Je l’aime!” Madame Agnés sounded extremely pleased with what I had designed.
“Merci.” I smiled as I clicked my pen up and down.
“I’ll send over an invitation! I hope you will be able to come! Mes excuses! I have to go! Au revoir!” She shouted to someone in the room as she placed the receiver down. I returned mine back into the holder and sighed.
“Reni, call on line 3.” Hazel buzzed through. I frowned and glared at the receiver.
“Good afternoon, Serenity Taylor speaking. How may I help you?” I tried to keep my tone light and carefree.
“It’s good that I’ve finally gotten through to you Miss Taylor.” An unknown spoke through and I frowned but spoke with a cheerful voice.
“May I ask who this is?” I chirped.
“I’m calling on behalf of my boss, the owner of Giroda Line.” I noted this down and prepared for the negotiations. “He’s interested in meeting up for a meal later today. I was wondering if you still have your lunch slot free today.”
“I’m afraid I don’t do the meetings, that is my partner’s expertise.” I wondered why on earth Hazel would patch this call through to me. “I can connect you to my partner for further negotiations.” I patched the call through to Jayson and slammed the receiver down.
I put my head into the pile of paperwork and immersed myself only to be disturbed minutes later. “Reni, call on line 2.”
“I’m busy goddamit, patch it through to Jayson.” I buzzed back.
“I’m sorry, I know there’s been a call every five minutes but this one’s personal.”
“If it’s my mum, I’m not in my office and you don’t know when I’ll be back.” I snapped into the intercom.
“I don’t think it’s your mother. I’ve never heard her voice before. She claims to be a Sherey.” I became alert as I realised who it was.
“Yeah, that’s Kyler’s sister. Patch her through.” I dropped my pen and picked up the handset.
“Sherey, -” I greeted, happily.
“Guess what? Bill just came to my dorm room and asked me out!” She squealed excitedly.
“You’re making an international call at the moment, you know?” I asked my eyes sparkling as I heard the happiness in her voice.
“I know! I just had to tell you and thank you for going to talk to him!” She added mischievously.
“No problem. A girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do.” I quipped.
“Thank you so much! Oh! He’s nagging for me to hurry up, we’re going to class now. He’s taking me out somewhere after. I’m so excited!” She squealed again and I laughed.
