Chapter 29
"It's been a month and a half. You look fine now. I know you've been working on the dress the entire time but we haven't had a definite response from Madame Agnés so if this line doesn't run ..."
"We'll talk later." I responded bluntly, turning and dragging Del out the door.
"I picked you over anyone in my year not only because you were my best friend but I saw the potential in you. I hope you don't disappoint me." I heard him yell at me from back inside the house. I took firm steps away and hopped into the limo.
Once we were at the restaurant, I relaxed and had a one on one brother sister meal. We laughed about childhood memories and pointed out how everything was still the same. Our mum used to take us to the Thorne restaurant back at home on each of our birthdays. We discussed business briefly but moved on since the topic was dampening the joyous atmosphere. He bravely ventured into my personal life, only to have it thrown back into his non-existent one, his carefree flings and one night stands.
"Are you planning on settling down?" I asked, knowing how intrusive the question was.
"You sound like Mum. Now you've moved on, she's right behind me, nagging for me to get serious and find a proper girl." He twirled his fork into his spaghetti bolognese.
"But being in a proper relationship's really worth." I replied and he laughed.
"Just because you like it doesn't mean I suddenly feel the urge to settle down."
"I guess we'll leave it to when fate decides to let your other half meet you." I replied, knowing the line was corny. He smiled at me before raising his hand and ordering dessert. He ordered our usual desert. We've tried almost every single dessert they had to offer, considering the amount of time we've been here and we each had our favourite one.
My mouth watered as the waiter bought over my mango vanilla cheesecake. Del used to shake his head and wonder why I was so obsessed over something so simple. I looked over to his dish and saw the familiar complicated chocolate design, sitting regally on the plate.
"You're tastes are still as refined as ever." I commented as I eyed his dish.
"Still going for the same cheesecake again?" He raised his eyebrows at my dish.
"Hey, do not go there. Do not get between me and cheese." I faked my anger and waved my fork around in front of him. He chuckled and shook his head.
"Alright. Let's eat." He expertly dissembled his dessert and ate it slowly. "Mmm. This has always been the best."
"I've tried it before. It's good but cheesecakes still take the crown at the end of the day." I mumbled with my mouth full of soft crumbling crust.
"Hey Reni," He began as he ate a mouthful of chocolate soufflé into his mouth. "Kyler's here." I spun around as he said that and sure enough, my boyfriend was staring straight at me from the front of the restaurant as a man who I think was the manager hurrying towards him flustered. Once I caught his gaze, he broke into a smile and waved. I grinned and waved back. He excused himself from the manager and approached me.
"Hey beautiful." He whispered as he pulled me into a hug.
"You think I'm beautiful." I smiled back, my heart fluttering as he said it.
"Sure I do." He kissed my forehead and pulled away. "I'll see you tonight. I'm got an important meeting to attend so I won't be back until late. I'm really sorry." He murmured quietly.
"That's fine. I'll see you tonight." I smiled back and waved my hand. "Shoo! Go to your meeting now." I teasingly ordered and he laughed before leaving.
