Chapter 3
“Mum?” I made my way over to the table that my mum had reserved.
“Serenity, thank you for coming. Here, sit.” She gestured to the other chair.
“Mum, what’s wrong? You’re not ill are you?” A thousand different scenarios came to mind and anxiety started to form. I reached over the table and grabbed her arm.
“No. No.” She gently removed my arm. “It’s not about me. It’s about you.”
“Me?” I frowned. “What about me?”
“Your personal life. I’ve always told myself not to interfere but I’m actually worried now.”
“Mum.” I sighed annoyed. “I’m fine. I just haven’t met anyone special yet.”
“No, you used to be normal. Looking for a guy; believing in romance. Serenity, one bad egg doesn’t mean the rest are too.”
“Why is everyone like this? I don’t care about him anymore. I’ve moved on.” I balled up my fist in frustration.
“If you say so.” Even though she said that, the way she said it, was the total opposite of what it meant. Her words had an obvious doubt and uncertainty in them.
“Let’s just eat the meal.” I turned away from her and called for a waiter.

I finally got home that afternoon and I called Jayson. The call connected on the third ring.
“Jayson?”
No answer. Just background noise.
“Jayson? JAYSON! What the hell?” I cursed into the phone then I heard it.
“Ahhh. More. More. Faster. Oh my god. Oh my god. Jayson. Ahh.”
“Holy shit.” I hung up straight away and threw the phone a mile away from me. “Urghhhh. How could you leave you phone in such a vulnerable place when you do that? Not everyone wants to hear it.”
I decided to wait half an hour before calling again. This time he picked up after almost forever.
“Reni? What’s wrong?” He sounded normal and there was no noise in the background.
“Is the girl that you were having sex with gone yet?”
A yelp of surprise came through. “How did you know?”
“I heard. You don’t fricken leave your phone somewhere so … so vulnerable when having sex. I called you earlier and the call connected and then there’s some girl screaming for you.”
“Oh shit. Sorry Reni.” He coughed a few times in embarrassment.
“Oh god, whatever.” I inhaled and exhaled a few times.
“So how did today’s reunion go?” He changed the topic and asked about my day. Oh well, he’s the pitiful person to have asked me first.
“Diana was being a bitch like usual.” I started up.
“Woah. Woah. You never say that.” He cut in.
“Yeah well, it’s reserved just for her.” I replied bitterly.
“So it didn’t go that well…” His voice trailed off and I laughed at his genius reply.
“Yeah and I left early and then my mum calls me up. She tells me to go to Thorne, you know the restaurant. So I go. And she asks me questions about Louie.” I vented more into the phone as I glared penetratingly at the vase sitting on an end table in my bedroom.
