Chapter 3
“This University has a ghost hunting club?” Haruna smirked which turned into laughter. She looked around to see if she was laughing too loud. The complete silence sign on the nearest column loomed over her. She scrolled down further. There’s a chocolate club, Disney appreciation club. Haruna made a weird sound. One Asian student sitting a table across looked up from her laptop and glared.
Haruna smiled nervously and continued browsing. “Jeezus woman calm yer tits…” she hissed and adjusted her glasses on the bridge of her nose.
“Actually that ghost hunting club seems interesting.” The link opened up to their personal website; a beginner’s job at website creation and a mother lode of cartoon ghost gifs.
Haruna linked on the meeting times tab. The page loaded at a waltzing pace. “Load…” she groan in her mind.
The page read:
“Club Room: Room 15 E block
Meeting times: Thursday 5:30PM (Team A), Saturday 3:30PM (Team B). Any newcomers welcome!”
Haruna glanced at the clock on her screen. “3:45 PM” it read. Haruna cussed and quickly packed her bag. She hurried out of the library and heading briskly towards E block. There were still a lot of students for a day on the weekends.
The sunlight was obscured partially obscured by the low arches. Haruna pushed open the entrance doors of the block and continued down the well-lit corridor. Her footsteps echoed against the walls. She scanned the classroom signs as she went. “Room 12… 13… 14…. 15.” Haruna gingerly knocked on the door.
“You can come in, the door’s open.” Said a silvery female voice.
Haruna pushed the door open. She spotted four people in the room; a guy half hidden in the corner with the row of computers against the white washed wall with pin up boards all around. There were two girls sitting on the tables casually conversing and another guy writing notes on the board.
The two girls gave their full attention to her. She instantly recognised them; the two girls looking at her from their café seats in Chinatown yesterday. And that purple head is in her elective’s class.
“Is this the Uni’s ghost hunting club?” Haruna trying not to look nervous.
“Sure is.” One of the girls said. Her wholesome smile evaporated her nerves.
“Cool… erm how do I join?” Haruna stammered.
“I’m assuming you’re showing interest in the world of the paranormal right?”
“Y-yes?” Haruna quavered. “I think watching every single Ghost Hunters and Ghost Adventures episode counts…” She thought.
“Well you’re in.” she smiled. “Maybe we should introduce ourselves.” Rina looked around the room.
Meanwhile, the other girl had been observing her, effortlessly shuffling a pack of tarot cards in her hands. Haruna felt like the girl’s eye’s pierced her soul.
“I’m Rina, this is Mami, and the guy over there is Erick our audio tech, and Brady’s our coordinator.” Rina said in a cheery tone, pointing to each of the individuals.
Brady turned around and waved and went back to note his note making. His scruffy short brunette hair captured Haruna’s attention, clean shaven and presentable.
Mami gave a quick smile and returned to her usual cold demeanour without a word. She continued to shuffle the deck of tarot cards.
“Have you had any experiences with the paranormal before?” Rina asked.
