Mary barked at Haruna, commanding that she be fed the sausage lying idly on Haruna's plate.
"No, its mine. Its not dog food."
Mary barked again. Insistent on having the sausage. She could have easily mowed over the low party table filled with treats and other irresistible food Haruna's mum had prepared for a family friend gathering. One of mum's loud friends filled the air with her obnoxiously loud laughter whilst her husband piled the tray with more BBQ meat.
"Fine..." Haruna as she pretended to let the sausage roll off her plate. As she got up to fill her plate with seconds. Mary was quick to snap at her treat before it reached the ground.
Each one of them came by and asked her how she was going whilst patting massive Mary. She tried to small talk with them. Yet she felt a little bored and unoccupied perhaps lonely. She could easily hid in her room but she felt somewhat obligated to at least be present and not be the mysterious eldest child who had no socialising skills. Unlike her brother who could get off scoffs free and play his video games with the other family friends' kids that were his age.
But there was the doctor, she had been itching to talk to him about her problems. For now she could only casually glance at him, hoping he'd realise she wanted his attention, badly. Yet she felt shy and reluctant, there was still this distance between or so she felt. It had been like this since the accident and even more so since his revelation which Haruna hoped would bring her some closure. Only to open up more questions. Is there any research into this 'disease' or illness, how does he feed and still keep a normal life, how did his wife come to know and accept it, unless she doesn't know...
Haruna edged towards the food table when the doctor was also getting x number of rounds of food.
"Hello Haruna." He said casually. "How have you been? Nearly done with your studies?"
"Yeah hey. Close... still got a bit left to do. Erm." Haruna came to a awkward start.
"Hm?" The doctor heard her loud and clear.
"Can I have a word with you when you finish eating?" Haruna said. She was proud of herself for being able to push the words out though simultaneous anxiety and nervousness about what would happen next.
"Sure." The doctor put down his plate as did Haruna.
Now her heart was pounding where were they even going to talk about this? Haruna made her way back into the kitchen and dining area, the doctor followed. Like a giant following a little elf. Haruna quickly scanned the living room for any quiet more private areas to talk. None to be found, the whole living room was occupied by aunties if not little kids running around. She sighed internally and headed for her room. Suddenly the door opened to her fright. Tomo peeped out.
"Don't scare me like that." Haruna mouthed.
"Sorry." Tomo said.
Thankfully the doctor couldn't see Tomo, or could he?
"I see you've kept this room since you were little." The doctor commented as they entered Haruna's bedroom. Tomo eyed the two and left, closing the door behind her.
"Y-yeah." Haruna chuckled.
The doctor settled into Haruna's study chair whilst Haruna sat on her bed.
"How have you been?"
Haruna looked at the ground for a brief moment. An unconscious act.
When she looked up, her eyes were blue.
"Ok... but its probably time I also came to terms and said I'm not."
She forced herself to stare into the eyes of the doctor to highlight her serious concern.
