Chapter 8

“I’m going to have to park in a tree at this rate.” Haruna said sarcastically out loud. Sunday work hadn’t treated her well and now the bloody shopping centre parking lot was full. She reeled into the first parking space, she spotted. Yet again, mum and dad weren’t home early enough prepare, so she’d be cooking for her brother and herself. It wasn’t anything new, her and her brother had gotten used to the lack of parental presence. She clicked open her pocket watch and checked the time; 4:57. She sighed, and pulled out her phone to check the notification buzz. It was a stupid advertisement in her emails. Haruna pulled a smug grin and opened the door with unsuspected force. The sound of car door against another car caught Haruna off guard. Haruna felt butterflies bump around in her stomach as she assessed the damage.

The gleaming, seemingly new white car had an ugly mark on it. Haruna cursed and got out of the car. “Now what am I going to do? She complained loudly without noticing and slammed her car door. Her mind drew scribbles instead of functioning as it should of. She eye caught a man frozen in front of car with his car keys pointed at the car.

It dawned on her that the driver had watched his car be scratched by her. It felt like a lightning bolt had struck her. Stand in front of her was Ian from the Police station.

“Do you own this car?” Haruna asked awkwardly as mind dropped the F and S bomb repeatedly.

“Yes I do.” Ian replied confidently.

“I’m so sorry. I-I just…” Haruna just couldn’t respond to man who watched her ruin his brand new car. "How much will that repair cost?” Haruna was in the midst of fishing out her wallet.

“Don't worry, I can get it fixed.”

Ian continued to watch Haruna fish around in her bag. “No I really meant it. It’s actually good that manage I to catch up with you here.”

“I beg your pardon?” Haruna looked up at him.

“If you spot anything unusual call the number I gave you.” Ian said flatly.

“Excuse me?” Haruna said, her eyebrows furrowed together.

“Don’t tell anyone. And don’t take this too seriously.” Ian trailed off.The words he just spoke came out more stiffly than he expected.

Haruna moved in closer.

“Um… from the investigation that is being untaken… just be on your guard.” Ian said quietly.

“Okay…” Haruna trailed off. She knew where this was going, her heart pumped faster in response. She tried to take a deep breath and calm her nerves. Her eyes flashed blue then slowly her brown faded back in like colour droplets in water.

“Are you ok?” Ian looked at her in a concerned manner, he literally staring at her eyes.
