Chapter 11

Haruna crossed the busy road to the café Rina was waiting at. It had been a while since Haruna had last met Rina as she had gone on teaching training for her music degree. And even though the ghost hunting club they had all gone on with little or no contact keeping to their own busy lives. So, she was surprised to receive text from Rina asking if she was free for the afternoon. Haruna didn't really know Rina that well but found it awkward to turn down her offer so she agreed to meet up.

She peered into the dimly lit Café Rina had mentioned in the text message.  A light tap the shoulder sent shock waves down her body. She turned around to see Mami back in blonde smirking.

"Hey don't do that! You can scare people like that!" Haruna said, annoyed and flustered.

Mami gave a mischievous smile.

"How did you do that?"

"I'm like a ghost." Mami snickered.

"Bullshit, even Tomo's louder than you and she's the real deal." Haruna said defiantly.

"Yeah she is quite loud. But where is she?" Mami asked, she looked around and behind Haruna anticipating the bubbly character to spring from behind Haruna.

"If you stopped doing that, she's at home since she decided she'd leave me alone for a day." Haruna said, heavily emphasising on 'a day'.

"Right...So how have you been?" Mami asked. It had been weeks since they last saw each other.

"Ok. Just stayed at home for most of the winter break... what about you?"

"Gamed and worked for the most of it." Mami rubbed her neck. "Mum and I are planning to go Japan when the next holiday rolls around."

"Sounds like fun." Haruna said in a borderline sarcastic tone. She caught Rina waving to them out of the corner of her eye.

"I bet Rina's impatient now."

"Yeah probably." Mami shrugged and crossed the road with Haruna.

"Sooo how was your last day of being a prac teacher?" Mami asked coolly as she sat down.

"One of the kids gave me a present when we had a class party." Rina said excitedly waving a wrapped box which Haruna guessed contained chocolates.

"Aww that's cute." Haruna said. She smiled at the thought of Rina receiving a gift.

"Sure it wasn't from some desperate Asian nerd?" Mami smirked.

"Just give up Mami." Rina sulked. "Those stereotypes don't exist." She glared at Mami.

"Well they did at my school." Mami dramatically flipped over the menu. "Woo all day breakfast man! I've been craving bacon recently but the food police won't allow stuff like that in the house." She stared Rina.

Rina sighed and tried to ignore the child, whilst Haruna was caught in the awkward tension between the two.

"Why don't we have early dinner instead?" Haruna suggested. "It's nearly six anyway."

"Yeah I agree. As long as I get my bacon..."

Rina rolled her eyes and sighed at the sight of Mami's pedo smile.

"I'll just tell Amy if she doesn't hurry up she won't just be missing out on tea but also her dinner." Rina said as she tapped on her phone.

"Done." Rina said. "Any suggestions as to where we should eat out tonight?" She looked up at the two.
