Chapter 4
"And... here we are." Mami thought.
Erick stopped the car and all five got out. Each one of them dressed in dark coloured hoodies. They looked like mobsters. The car's security system beeped quietly as the doors were left opened. The car's boot light was the only light source in the pitch black area.
Each one of them took an infrared equipped camcorder, two EMF readers and one of the three digital voice recorders. Each group also took walkie talkie with them. Mami brought her own thermal imagining camera.
"Make sure everything is fully charged." Said Erick.
They had decided they would split up into three groups; Mami and Haruna, Brady and Rina and Erick on his own.
Mami and Haruna ventured off in the dark towards the small general section up Whelan Avenue. Their torch lights floated up the walk way like bright ghostly lights. Erick remained in the small Anglican section near their parked car while Rina and Brady walked towards the lower section of the Anglican section.
Rina was hearing conversations of people nearby but Brady was silent. Mami looked around casually observing the men conversing on tombstones and women gossiping in groups. This certainly wasn't a quiet cemetery. They were mostly ignored and continued to be unacknowledged; thankfully.
Haruna felt a growing discomfort from her chest, whilst Mami on the other hand seemed rather calm and at home with their surroundings.
Haruna patted her pocket for reassurance of her puffer. She cursed at herself; it was left on the dining table. Mami sensed her discomfort.
"Are you ok?" Mami asked.
"Yeah I'm fine." Haruna lied.
"You suck at lying." Mami jeered. "If you feeling any worse, tell me."
Haruna was lost for words. "How did she know I was lying? I'm sure I said it pretty sincerely..."
Shortly after, they arrived at the General section. This place was swarming with the ones who had passed on. The rows tombstones were positioned neck to neck, next to each other with a wide walking space in between each row.
"We're certainly going to get a few EVPs at this place. Just look at the number of them..." Mami said.
Haruna started blankly into the darkness she could only see a few bare tombstones. She thought she caught whiff of rotten meat but dismissed it.
"How many are here?" Haruna asked.
"A lot, in the hundreds..." Mami answered.
Haruna flipped on the camcorder and began recording. Mami turned on hers and the voice recorder. She began to yell is there anyone who wants to make contact with them.
Heads turned but none of them could care less about a crazy, living girl yelling in the middle of their resting place.
Mami finally stopped amplifying her voice.
"Quiet hey?" Haruna said casually.
"None of them are in the mood to talk." Mami replied gruffly.
"I'll try." Haruna said.
She cleared her throat and confidently looked into the depthless darkness.
"Is there anyone who would like to communicate with us to let us know you are here?" She boomed.
Haruna continued to ask question spaced out by long pauses. Exactly how the ghost hunters did on her favourite shows. Hopefully it was the right thing to do. Mami held out the EMF reader.
