The next day Railynn and Jake's sword fighting battle was not pretty at all. Jake tried to wager the bet but Railynn won, knocking him out cold for a couple hours. She did stay by his side, holding his hand the whole time, feeding him bits of ambrosia until he woke up—and when he woke up they made up.Its been three days since then, and their first date is tonight.
"Katie, come on, the party already started!" Miranda sighs.
"I'm in no rush, it wasn't even my idea to go." I drag my feet as we walk to the Apollo cabin. It looks like everyone is there and I'm surprised that Chiron and Mr. D haven't come and shut it down.
Then I remember that Chiron is off visiting his cousins, the Party Ponies, and that Mr. D doesn't give a single fuck when it comes to what we do—as long as we don't get him in trouble for it.
"Well, this is my first date with Connor," Miranda blushes.
"Oh my gods, you and Connor?!" My eyes widen.
"Yeah, since you and Travis got together, me and Connor have decided to be civil too. And hang out. And one thing led to another..."
At least one of us is happy in our relationship with a Stoll. "I'm happy for you," I tell her.
She blushes deeper.
The music can be heard from afar and party lights shine everywhere. I actually have never been to Drew's or Myra's parties, I usually don't like how distruptive they are, so this would be my first.
As we enter the exploded cabin I see that exploded turned out to be an understatement. There are campers on tables, hanging lamps, chairs, and even some Hermes kids walking on the ceiling--using their winged shoes of course. They seem to be having a water balloon fight. One in piticular though catches my eye as he gets slashed by a bunch of water from his siblings. I laugh at his reaction and dodge some falling water headed my way.
"Travis!" I shout trying to get his attention. It works and he moves so that he can see me. I laugh at his soaked shirt and wave at him. I'm about to motion for him to come over to me but then I notice the fimiliar mischievous smirk in his eyes and start to back away from him. "Oh no, no, no!" I shout as he flies towards me. "Travis don't—!"
Too late. In a matter of seconds he has me against his soaked chest and his arms around my waist from behind. "TRAVIS YOU'RE GETTING ME ALL WET, LET GO!" I shout.
He ignores me and laughs, pulling me closer. "Now, now, Katie," he says in my ear, "That's a bit innaproprate, isn't it?"
I gasp at his statement and blush, wishing I could take back my previous sentence.
He softly chuckes.
"Travis!" I rephrase, "Let go!"
"No way, Kates, I barely managed to get you to even come to this party, if I let you go, who's to say that you're not gonna just leave?" He says.
"True, true. Just let go. You're soaked."
"Mm...no." He smirks, "Whats the magic word?"
"Mm..." I say mocking him "Or else?"
"Thats my girl." He draws in close and for a second, I think he's going to kiss me, but instead, kisses the tip of my nose.
I release a breath I didn't know that I was holding in a shaky laugh. We've never kissed before...I mean, sure, hugs and a few pecks on the cheek, forehead, and hand, but that was the closest that we've been the actually kissing. I honestly don't know how I would feel if we would have actually done it. It would be a big step considering that we're only fake dating.
Fake.I don't understand why I feel this way whenever I have to remind myself that its all fake. I know I've gotten used to Travis' presence around me, and we don't really argue anymore, I mean—we're friends now. We're competitive and still keep a playful rivalry, but it's almost disappointing. Like something important is just out of our grasp.
I snap back into reality when I hear cat calls to my right. Travis and I turn our heads and see our friends are approaching. I smile as I see that Railynn and Jake are holding hands.
"Travis and Katie sitting in a tree, K-I-S-S-I-N-G!" Connor sings like a kindergardner, earning a playful smack upside the back of his head from Miranda.
Travis rolls his eyes at his brother as he lets go of my waist, but still, he takes my hand in his and we intertwine our fingers.
"I'm going to go dance," Miranda says, she loops her arm through Railynn's and drags her along.
"Hey, what about us?" Connor asks, referring to Jake too.
"We're not stopping you," She smiles. "Come along boys." Their dates follow them into the crowd.
"Do you want to join them?" Travis asks me.
"Not really," I admit.
"How about later then?" He laughs. "Want get something to drink for now?"
"Yeah, maybe later. Let's get something to drink."
He leads us to a food area where we fill our cups, then move to a couch and take a seat. He puts his arm around my shoulders, "Thanks for coming to the party with me," He says. "I know that you won the bet, but thanks for still coming."
I shrug nonchalantly, "I am generous, aren't I?"
He smiles. "So very generous—I'm one lucky man."
"You are."
"How will I ever manage to pay you back for your generosity?" He exaggerates.
I smirk. "I'll just have to cash in a favor from you one of these days—"
"Hi, Trav," Myra waves.
"Myra!" Travis sits up.
"How are you enjoying the party?" She asks.
"It's really fun," He brightens up. "Katie and I were about to go dan—"
"Maybe the two of us could hang out sometime?" She interrupts.
I take a sip of my drink and try not to make a face at her.
Travis opens his mouth but a loud crash comes from the crowd of dancing campers and the music abruptly stops. "You broke it!" An Apollo child shouts.
"It's not my fault!" Another camper defends.
"You guys are getting too wild!"
"Relax, we'll just clean it up!"
"What did you do?!" Myra shouts.
Travis stands up. "Hey, it'll be okay, let's try to settle this." He knight in shining armor. Something twists in my stomach.
"They broke it though, Trav," Myra starts.
"I know, but they said they'll clean it up," Travis puts his hands up in surrender. "Come on, lets just try something not so wild. It'll be okay."
"Let's play a game," Connor offers, coming to his brother's aid.
"Yeah! Good idea!" Rai says nodding. "Truth or dare."
