Chapter 3 || Moving Day

So the week went by quickly even with the upset teachers after I tolled them about me moving. I feel as though I'm going to miss Chicago more than I thought I would.

It is now Saturday and I'm helping pack the truck for the movers to take over to New York. I'm actually happy to start fresh but not to change the way I am at school, and what's the point of making new friends if I only have 5 months left of school until I graduate.

As I put the last box in the truck I close the rolling door.
"It's ready Jo" I yelled. Jo is one of the movers that's helping us, the other is Marty.
"Okay cool" he yells back. I walk back into the house and I head upstairs, walk into my room and grab the stuff I want to take in my car which is my pet dachshund, her name is TJ, my phone, phone charger, backpack, sunglasses and water bottle.

I walk back downstairs with TJ following behind and my stuff in hand and my backpack on.
"I'm going mom" I yell.
"Okay Hun,I'll see you halfway" She yells back and walks to the front door where I am. I hug her, peck her cheek and say bye. I walk out to my car and put my stuff in the back seat, pick up TJ and put her on her bed which is on the passenger seat.
"Time to go to New York TJ" I say as I walk to the drivers side. I get in and switch Macie to life. I put my phone into the auxiliary port and put my most recent remix on. I back out of the driveway and look over at TJ, she is already asleep. I smile to myself and put the car into drive. "Let's roll" I mumble.

I've been driving for 4 hours, stopping here and there to get a snack and to let TJ do her business. My mom hasn't called me or messaged me to let me know where she is but what I do know is that the half way point is only a few miles away from where I am at the moment. As I continue driving I get a call from the movers Jo and Marty.
"Hello ?" I say.
"Oh yeah, hey Laylani.. Umm does your mom want us to stop at the halfway point too ?" He asked.
"Yeah just do it anyway, yous deserve a break and nap" I said
"Okay cool, see you in a few" he said
"Yup, cya then" I said.
"Bye" he hung up.

I read the signs as I continue to drive and New York isn't faraway. I turn off to a little diner that is also a gas station. I park and grab out my phone and call my mom. On the fourth ring she answers.
"Hey" I said
"Hey sweetie, where abouts are you ?" She asks.
"At the halfway point, it's a diner cross gas station" I said as I look outside my car.
"Okay I won't be long" she replies
"Okay cool, love ya" I said.
"Love ya too" she says and hangs up.
I look down at TJ and she is sound asleep. I look back out of my window and I see the movers truck on the the other side of the building. Both Marty and Jo aren't in the truck, they must be in the diner.

After 5 minutes of waiting for my mom to rock up she finally arrives in her white Chrysler. We may sound rich but really we're not, yeah we have a bit of money but we aren't loaded. My mom parks next to me and turns to look at me, she smiles and waves, I do too. She gets out of her car and walks over to me window, I put the window down.
"So are you going to have a meal and leave or just a toilet break ?" I ask.
" I think I'm gonna grab a coffee and burger inside then I'll leave to find a motel not far from here" she says.
"Okay sounds cool, could you get me a drink and burger too please, I'll go look for a motel because I have TJ with me" I say looking down at TJ.
"Yeah sure, see you in a bit" she says and walks into the diner.
I start my car again and put my phone on charge since I've been using it to play my music through the speakers. I see in the diner that my mom has already start to order our meals and I notice that Jo and Marty are devouring their bacon and eggs in the corner of the dinner I laugh to myself and pull out.

I've been driving for atleast 10 minutes, reading signs and looking out for exits. I've noticed a motel sign and it says that there is a motel 15 minutes away. I quicky pick up my phone and dial my mom and add Jo and Marty into the convo.
"Hey guys, I've found a motel almost 30 minutes away from the diner, come on down and we can stay down here for the night, I'll pay for rooms... Oh and Jo and Marty, you wanna share a room with seperate beds or have individual rooms ?" I say.
"Hey, and okay yeah sounds good, I don't mind sharing a separated bed unit with Marty" Jo says.
"Yeah I don't mind either Laylani, but you don't have to pay for Jo and I" Marty says.
"Alright, and I insist on paying for it, it just means that we have to pay yous less for moving our furniture and boxes" I say.
"If you insist" both Jo and Marty say. They hang up from the call leaving my mom and I still on the line.
"I'll see you in a bit mom" I said
"Will do" she chirps.
I hang up and park my car. I open my backpack and take out TJ's leash. I put it on her and put her down on the ground. I put everything into my backpack, lock my car and walk over to the reception. I walk inside and see that the receptionist lady is busy screaming at the television hanging in the corner of the room at the top. I see that the football is on.
"Ehem" I fake cough trying to capture her attention. She turns and looks at me as though she just saw the most devastating thing in her life.
"Hi" I say nervously, just the appearance of this lady is intimidating.
"Oh hello there ma'am" she says excitedly.
"I'm here to book two units for the night" I say
"Yes of course" she says turning around and sits in her ripped office chair. She clicks her mouse on her computer a few times and quickly grabs a pen and notepad.
"I have a few questions then I'll give you your keys and you can head to the rooms" she says.
"Okay" I say giving her a half smile.
"Okay so do you want both rooms with separate beds ?" She asks and looks up at me.
"Yes Thankyou" I say.
"And you said that you're staying the night, do you plan on leaving in the early hours of the morning ?" She asks.
"I'll be leaving whenever I'm up and ready, same with the others" I say giving her a half smile.
"Okay sure" she stands up and heads over to a cabinet.
"Here are your keys, enjoy your stay" she says grinning handing over the keys.
"Thankyou" I say and walk out with TJ following behind me.

I spit my toothpaste into the sink and wash it down the drain. I floss my teeth and switch the bathroom light off. I walk over to TJ and kiss her head before jumping into my bed. The beds in this motel are exceptionally clean and the rooms are pristine but old fashioned. As I get into bed I say good night to my mom and switch my bed side light off.

Hopefully I'll be in New York by the end of tomorrow.

I know this is going really slow but I want everything to make sense and not to rush the events.
More chapters is better ! Right ?
