As the disembodied arm flopped to the ground, Lewis dropped the knife on the floor and ran to the window to throw up. Joakim felt his nose where Liam kicked him, and luckily didn't find any blood. The girls were, however, looking a bit green as the blood pooled on the bed and dripped to the floor.
"We need to bandage him up." Joakim said. He reached for a first aid kit that they put next to the bed, and walked over to Liam's side. Zoey and Hannah followed, with Lewis joining a little later.
The whole right side of Liam's shirt was soaked. His head was lolled to the side, his glasses that have survived the year were cracked on one side. His skin was slightly pale from blood loss.
Joakim took some gauze and wrapped it over the wound, trying not to gag at the sight of the bone, and tied a knot to keep it on Liam's arm. The bandages soaked quickly, so they wrapped it up again. Then Joakim and Lewis lifted Liam up slightly, so the girls could remove the blood-soaked sheets underneath him. They replaced the sheets with a blanket that was found in a closet, and set Liam back down. Then they managed to throw the disembodied arm out the window without anyone fainting, and headed downstairs with Joakim watching Liam.
Chapin, Chris, Caleb and Ryder were sitting around in the living room, but didn't seem to be talking. They turned their heads when everyone walked down the stairs.
"Is Nilesy okay?" Chris asked.
"Well, he's alive, but I'm not sure if he's okay....." Zoey said.
"His arm is off?" Chapin asked in astonishment. She didn't think they would go through with it.
"Yeah, and I had to cut it." Lewis said. Hannah came over and put her head on his shoulder and held his hand.
"We should probably try to get something to eat. You said there's a pantry...?" Chapin said from the chair. She was about to stand up, but flinched, and sat back down. Her hand instinctively went to her thigh, where the burn was.
"You stay here, we'll get the food." Chris said.
"We can help." Caleb said. He took Ryder's hand and followed the others back into the pantry. They came back out carrying loads of food, and they sat down to dig in.
Zoey went upstairs to give some food for Joakim, then came back down to see everyone else. Chris opened a can and licked his lips.
"Hungry again?" Hannah joked.
"You betcha," Chris replied, like they were in Yogtowers having a meal, instead of in an unfamiliar house in unfamiliar land. "Whatever that was with that scratch, it's passed now. I feel like I could eat a horse." The others chuckled at this statement.
Caleb managed to get Ryder to eat a couple pieces of fruit and a few sips of water. Then the girl snuggled up to her brother and closed her eyes. Caleb patted her head as he finished the can.
A couple hours before the sunset, there was a quick yell from upstairs. Lewis, Hannah, and Zoey rushed up the stairs while the others stayed.
Liam was awake, and looked around the room and at his arm in pure terror. Joakim was trying to talk to him, but Liam seemed to be freaking out. He moved the little stub left of his arm, and that seemed to panic him more.
"Liam! Liam!" Joakim tried, grabbing onto the other's shoulder. It had no effect.
The other three kneeled around Liam and tried to say encouraging things.
"Liam?" Lewis said. "It's okay, friend! Your going to be okay!" It also had no effect. Lewis thought for a moment, then tried again. "Nilesy! Your okay!" Liam seemed to calm down a little. His breathing was still heavy, but he didn't look at his arm. The others caught on. Instead of saying 'Liam', they said 'Nilesy'.
