Elly and Caleb stayed in the room for a while, going back and forth with 'would you rather's. It passed time, and the sounds of the undead were far enough away for it not to bother them.
Their banter was cut off once again by a noise from downstairs.
"What was that?" Caleb asked.
"I don't know," Elly said. "It sounded like something.... fell?"
"Crashed, do you think?" Caleb asked. "You think it was them?"
"I don't know," Elly said. "It must've been. I don't think zombies could do that."
"Yeah," Caleb felt Woody move in the backpack. He set the pack down on his lap and reached a hand in to stroke the German shepard's fur.
A shadow passed the room they were in. Elly noticed it first, Caleb still looking down at a sleeping Woody. Elly froze, and then tapped Caleb on the shoulder. Hard.
"What?" He asked. Elly, eyes wide, pointed to the door. Caleb followed, and froze and as more shadows passed the door.
"Don't move," Elly said.
They didn't. The shadows passed, and moans became more louder, clearer. It was terrifying, being trapped in that small room, and having your worst nightmare stand right outside the door.
"What do we do?" Caleb whispered.
"You came up with the plan last time," Elly said.
"It's your turn now!" Caleb argued.
"Okay, okay," Elly said. She looked around the room for anything they could use. "Maybe we could sneak out again? We just have to wait for them to pass. We'll head for the hole, and jump down the boxes. Then we'll try to find the others!"
Caleb frowned. "I didn't even think my plan was going to work. And this time they're closer. We have to be really careful, and if they see us, run." Elly nodded.
"Let's wait until they all pass."
The two held hands while watching the door. The shadows passed, and then nothing appeared. The moans grew distant.
"I think it's time we go," Caleb said.
"Hey, Caleb," Elly whispered. Caleb tore his attention away from the door and looked at his companion. Elly leaned and quickly placed a kiss on the other's lips.
At Caleb's stuttering and flushed cheeks, she chuckled, her own cheeks blushing.
"For good luck," She added, grabbing him by the arm and leading him to the door. Caleb coughed awkwardly and tried to control his blushing face while Elly looked out the window.
The hallway was clear(from what Elly could see) of any undead monsters. The rest of the undead gathered at the end of the hallway, moaning in a loud chorus.
"I think we'll be okay if we make a break for it," She turned to Caleb. "Ready?"
Caleb nodded, and slung the backpack on his back. Woody had fallen back asleep, and snuggled into the blankets that Caleb kept in there.
Elly slowly opened the door and looked out. The zombies were wandering around the end of the hallway, herded there by a noise. She looked to Caleb again, who nodded. She gulped, and opened the door wider.
They spotted her immediatly. A louder moan signaled the others to look towards her, and then more walked her way.
"Run!" Caleb said behind her.
Elly swung open the door and ran. Caleb was right behind her, holding the backpack straps with his hands.
Elly looked behind her shoulder quickly to make sure Caleb was alright. It was only a second - a second too long. The zombie grabbed her hair and pulled her towards him. His other hand grabbed her arm, and Elly's free hand struggled with the undead monster.
