Chapter 2

You seemed familiar, but I didn't notice until it was too late.

Jeffory's POV

The girl that Zane addressed as Katelyn was a pretty good fighter, but something inside told me that she could've done better. She seems almost...familiar. I was too distracted to see her swing at me. I  quickly blocked with my blood red sword. The impact of her gauntlets sent a tingly happy feeling through me. SNAP OUT OF IT! Zane is your master and no one else.

I was cornered on the edge of the pillar. If I fell, I'd die from fall damage. That is not good for me. Ever since master found me, I was afraid of heights. *clank* My sword dropped down the pillar and shattered into pieces when it brushed on a shorter pillar on the way down, fragments of things that were once one. Just like me. I looked at the fragments, they worked as a mirror. There was one thing I could see behind me in that half-a-heart shaped fragment. I saw eyes, blue as the ocean. Soon, air blew another symmetrical fragment to the mirror like one.

I couldn't describe how I felt at that moment. I saw clearly again. Laughter from an anonymous source sent happy throbs to my heart. It wasn't real, though. It was just an echo, ringing through my ears.

At that moment, Katelyn held me by the neck, over the edge. Tears fell slowly out of her eyes.

"Wait! I'm still your friend!"

"Katelyn?"

"Please!"

She acted as if she couldn't hear me.

I fell.

Maybe I deserved it. I turned my back on them. Aphmau, Katelyn, even Garroth were valued greatly in my life. Katelyn looked at my face one last time. Then, she noticed.

"They're green....... I'm sorry."

"I love you."

It was only a whisper, but I heard it.

She dashed down the pillar, even her fire-resistant gauntlets were smoking after she got down.

When I landed, she was a centimeter away.

"I love you too, Katelyn."

I never felt anything better than I did now. Not at my first birthday party, not when I met Katelyn, not when I met Ann or married her.

Katelyn was besides me, crying. Life flashed before my eyes.

Complication of flashbacks

"I'll name him, Jeffory!"

"Doesn't he have the cutest little eyes!"

"My name is Katelyn!"

"Welcome to Guard School! You will be in the senior year class!"

"This is my girlfriend, Ann!"

"Katie, you okay?"

"I'm not jealous!"

"I love you"

"Thank you!"

"Katelyn, can I sleep for a bit? I'm sleepy"

"NO! Just a little longer! Zoey is coming!"

"Can I shut my eyes?"

"N-no. Please."

"Katelyn, How have you been?"

"Save your breath. I've been fine."

"How...How did I die before?"

"Murdered by Zane."

"How is Abby?"

"Alright. She was okay the last time I checked."

"Thanks."

"It's alright."

She smiled at me, almost as if utter chaos wasn't taking place around her. Almost like she did years ago when we met. It made me feel calm.

Everything started turning black.

"JEFFORY! ZOEY"S HERE! HOLD ON!"

It felt great, dying at the arms of the one I loved the most. "Katelyn?" I whispered "I love you."
