They were small things.
They were things that every single person in his crew wondered about at one point or another, no matter what or no matter how much time since they first joined the crew; they always asked the same questions. Law had noticed it a few months after they first 'acquired' the submarine in possibly the best terms possible, along a capable engineer and mechanic, someone more than willing and happy to betray certain organization in order to actually test his masterpiece. It was the time when his crew grew large enough to stand at a satisfying fifteen, the first time they figured out the safest way for them to enter the Grand Line. Enough people living under one roof –or layers of metal, depending on who you asked and what area of expertise they had-.
He was not the type of person who explained what he decided not to even address, never gave reasons for his actions because he never felt the need to do so, and he probably never would, so for that same reason his subordinates always tried to guess just what thought stood behind his actions, and no matter what kind of things they came up with or how many options they actually presented to him, Law never said they were wrong.
However, he never said they were right either.
"Why Bepo wears an orange suit?"
He is captain's second in command, he has to stand out from the rest. His fur is already white as it is anyway.
"Why does he like maroon so much?"
He was called the Surgeon of death for something and not precisely his achievements as a doctor.
And on nights like those, when he observed the fire flowers that bloomed in the night sky with explosive sound and colors, having stopped to buy them himself in the last island where they had charged up a little, the most recent members of the crew –A boy named James, a teenager named Kal- had one of the usual questions crossing their minds when they first noticed the captain's strange behavior. The members that had been with him more than a year already, like Bepo who was considered a veteran despite his sometimes vexing way of expressing himself, were kind enough to tell them about the captain's little tradition the same day every year.
Maybe the fact that it proved to be the, probably, oddest thing among all he decided to do, it was the only thing that no one ever dared to ask him about, because the face their captain had as he watched the colors reflect on the surface of the quiet waves, held an expression than couldn't really been seen somewhere else, and it probably meant the topic was off limits.
So, like all those times in the past, they made up their own answer.
"Why does he likes fireworks so much?"
Who doesn't like fireworks?
Law never said they were wrong.
Nor did he say they were right.
Because it was something that they couldn't easily understand even if some explanation was made, a thing that would probably sound stupid outside his mind, despite of how much he trusted every single person on board of his submarine.
Because that was his own way of kind of sending off an apology that would probably never be received.

"That's no good Sugar, no turning family into toys"
The young woman's maroon eyes followed Sugar's frame and her eyes caught on Dellinger's fearful scream as he leaped forward once more, faster than before, probably aware of how the girl's fingers had missed his heel by only a few inches. Doflamingo laughed as Yue stood behind the coach he was sitting on, the woman chuckling at how the girl actually pouted at the order that had pretty much sounded more like a suggestion. Sugar's present laid in her arms, the neatly wrapped box somehow standing out from the ones piled besides the pool. Maybe the fact that it was grape themed grapping did the trick, and there was a lot of wondering to do as of just what laid inside those boxes, not really sure what to make out of the bird shaped one that actually was Trebol's doing.
The booming sound of fireworks stopped Sugar's chase of Dellinger as well as everyone else's actions, everyone pausing to turn around and look at the display of colors and shapes, impressive drawings appearing in the sky one after the other in no order whatsoever. The older members toasted to it, raising their wine glasses with not just one comment about another year perfectly done and boasting about the fact that it quite possibly was the best, and Yue couldn't help to but laugh slowly, because that was about the same thing she had heard a year before, and the year before that.
"Hoo, are you so happy your hands are shaking? How adorable"
When she realized the comment was directed to her, confused eyes focused on Diamante before staring down at said part of her body. Maybe she had not noticed before because of what she was carrying and the fact that it occupied most part of her arms, but the light temblor of her fingers didn't even stop when she tried to focus on it. It was passable, and it wasn't like she felt bad or she felt anything at all, the shaking so light only trained eyes could possibly pick it out, but the fact that she tried again and it didn't stop, had her staring at her hand for a second or two, overly conscious of the pair of eyes covered in sunglasses that had turned to stare at her hand as well.
Then, Yue forced herself to make a face at the top Executive.
"Hilarious"
