"You are very distracted today"

The hand that was holding the spoon didn't stop moving in circles, slowly pushing the porridge in the plate until she had drown a formless thing, probably a rainbow by the looks of it, but she did lift her head to look at the man at the other side of the table as he held a cup of black coffee on one hand. Yes, his eyes were hidden by the dark lenses and the reflection of the sun coming through the window didn't exactly help on trying to see through them, but something not so deep inside of her told Yue that Doflamingo was staring without even blinking. The maid made a move to pour more juice on her empty glass, but Yue had already reached for the pit of orange liquid by the time the woman had stepped forward, eyes fixed on what she was doing so not to spill a drop into the pristine white table cloth.

"I didn't sleep well"

It was the first time she lied to Doffy.

That week sure was full of firsts.

When she felt guilty about how he just seemed to accept it with a hum Yue tried to convince herself that it wasn't actually a lie- Certainly, she had not been able of sleeping well the last few days, that was a fact. But a little voice really deep inside her mind reminder her that, even if she wanted to believe so, that just wasn't the whole thing. Because as quickly as the boy had come, he had left. It still was clear in her mind how the one named Trafalgar Law just slipped out of the room in a matter of seconds after hearing clicks and voices far down the corridor, nothing more than a quick glance over his shoulder at her surprised face before carefully closing the door behind him without a single sound. And that had pretty much been it; as if nothing had happened at all. As if he had been a ghost.

As if it had been a dream.

A really cruel dream.

How long had he stayed there in the first place? A minute? Two? Maybe even three, if she was being generous about it. Had been so quick Yue had not actually been able of keeping track of the time. He could have very well been a ghost, for all she knew.

So, at the end of the day, she did know it wasn't the whole reason or what he probably saw. The girl already knew what she was saying wasn't why she had that face in the morning or why she was not looking for things to talk about with Doflamingo, how it usually was when he came back from his trips with a grin and maybe more paint and books, when he was able of having a meal with her without the interruption of a Den Den Mushi or something of the sorts, when he wasn't too busy. Those little facts that actually meant a lot in her even smaller world made her feel bad when no one was there, and when he was away, the only thing that guaranteed her she had not been forgotten were the occasional calls and the meals brought in every single day.

Once she said half of what she thought out loud, about so many days working and so much time spent outside, far away.

"But you'll always be here to make my day when I come back, right Yue? Fufufufufufu. Because you're a good girl, you're my good girl"

And she couldn't say anything when he answered that.

All in all, pushing aside the fact that it really wasn't what she wanted to hear, it made her happy. When he said that kind of things she was very happy.

But when it got dark and it was time to close the door for the day, or when the maids came in saying that someone was asking for him, or when Trebol came in a talked enough to drag Doffy out of the room, that same happiness turned into something a bitter that weighted in her chest than all the nightmares combined. And she never dared to ask, no matter how many times she had tried to actually do so. Doffy always frowned when that happening, almost as if sensing what was close to come out of her mouth, and those simple lines appearing in his forehead made her close her mouth tightly so to prevent anything unasked for from coming out.
