The satisfying click of heels on tile filled Y/n's head. With each addition to the calming rhythm her mind began to clear. With a slight smile she continued to make her way to the Psychiatric Ward to begin her newest mission: helping in the mental rehabilitation of the base's newest patient, Mr. James B. Barnes aka Bucky.

All too soon Y/n had to bring her steady rhythm to a sudden halt as her eyes met the plaque on the thick metal door, reading 'Evaluation'. The confidence that once danced to the rhythm of her heels began to fade along with the beat. One slightly clammy hand straightened her simple outift: a black high waisted pencil skirt paired with an eggshell white button up top, all graced by freshly starched lab coat adorned with her initials. Mustering her courage she punched the entry code into the keypad to her right, triggering  the familiar sound of the locks.

A brief whoosh of air brought Y/n's head down from the clouds, the door was now open. Now strictly business, she walked into the room. Suddenly, she became hyper aware of the video surveillance system and the concealed weapon near her waist. With one look at the man before her, she knew her work was definitely cut out for her. All emotion had deserted the large man's face, and his chin length hair concealed his eyes as he slouched forward due to the awkward positioning of the restraints on his waist, ankles, and most importantly, arms.

After one deep intake of breath Y/n spoke, "Hello Mr. Barnes, I'm here to help you adjust to the team. My name is Dr. L/n, but I'd prefer if you referred to me as Y/n,". It took a moment for Bucky to respond, but it was not the way Y/n expected. A throaty chuckle grew in his throat as he spoke, " How'd you expect me to adjust when they insist on tying me up like an animal? That doesn't seem like it'll work doll,".
.
Y/n's slight fear of the ex-assassin was replaced with something else, disgust. The supposed 'good guys' had tied this man up when he needed the exact opposite. Again she spoke, a little more comfortably this time, "I guess we'll have to untie you then Mr. Barnes!". Shocked at her response he looked up, his calculating eyes met Y/n's e/c orbs, and an emotion he hadn't felt in so many long abusive years flooded his senses, was it relief?

Taking a few steps forward, Y/n began to undo the Winter Soldier's restraints, finally she had released all but one; his left arm. The slick metal surface both intrigued and terrified her, knowing it could easily kill anyone even with an array of weapons was enough to get her adrenaline pumping, but still, she undid it. Surprised by the doctor's kindness Bucky didn't even move in his new found freedom, he just simply stared into her eyes.

Then, the thing Y/n expected the least happened, this terrifying man began to cry. All the years of blind rage and abuse finally had a chance to escape. Without thinking she hugged the man, her hands wrapped around his neck trapping him in a warm embrace. Stunned at the foreign act of kindness he remained still, until he hesitantly wrapped his flesh arm around the strange new person.
