Calum's P.O.V
''Your turn'' I yell, passing the bowling ball to Sam. Our fingers touch for a second before we both walk opposite directions. I join Luke, who is sitting quietly on the bench, like he usually does.
''Hey man'' I smile, sitting down beside him and patting him on the shoulder. We'd been at our favourite bowling place for about five minutes now and we were still waiting for Rylie to show up. Luke nods at me, keeping his eyes on his phone. I watch as Sam throws the bowling ball down the lane, hitting all the pins. My mouth drops open as she turns around, her hands in the air.
''How do I do it.'' She brags, putting her hand on her hip. I stick my tongue out at her and she fake gasps. We both break into a smile, our eyes lingering on eachothers.
''Sup'' I hear from behind the bench. I see Luke's head flick upwards before he gets to his feet, turning around. I watch in amusement as Sam rolls her eyes and makes a gagging motion, making me laugh. I get up slowly to greet Rylie as she walks around the bench, a sideways smile plastered on her face. Sam joins us as Rylie hugs Luke and then me, followed by her.
''Sam look at this shit'' Rylie says, her voice raspy. I observe as she pulls something out of her handbag. Rylie carefully slides a piece of card, out of the black case. My eyes widen as do Lukes. Sam stares at it, not knowing what it is.
''Holy shit'' Luke exclaims, taking the card out of Rylie's hand and holding it close to his face. I stick my head over his shoulder, getting a better look at it. In the middle of the picture stood Rylie, her hand making the rock sign. On either side of her stood the band, The 1975. I feel my jaw drop as look back up at her, a smirk plastered on her face.
''How?!'' I yell
''My Dad was holding a banquet in Melbourne and they were there'' She begins ''If I'd known I definitely would've invited you guys'' She looks at us apologetically.
''I presume this is a band you guys like?'' Sam asks, earning laughs from each of us.
Luke hands the picture back to Rylie, still in awe.
''Also got these babies'' Rylie adds, gesturing towards her black Doc Martens.
''Now THAT is what I know about'' Sam shouts, bending down to get a better look at them. I watch Luke, out of the corner of my eye, as he looks Rylie up and down. He seriously just likes everything about her.
''Oh and Luke, I may or may not have gotten you something amazing while I was away...'' Rylie whisper shouts to Luke, winking. She pulls out another card and hands it to him.
''Ohmygod, Rylie!'' Luke practically screams, throwing his arms around her. ''It's signed by all of them, Cal!'' He explains when he pulls back.
I feel a bit jealous but let it go. Luke and Rylie dive into enthusiastic conversation about the band and I turn to face Sam who is awkwardly picking at the skin around her nails. She brings her eyes up to meet mine, pouting.
''You ok?'' I smile. She nods in response, giving me a shove in the shoulder.
''Wish I was into all this band stuff like you guys...'' Sam complains, putting on a childish voice. I grin at her, slinging my arm over her shoulder so she doesn't feel left out.
''This better?'' I smirk as she grins, over enthusiastically and nods her head. Me and Sam both look back to the others who are looking at us already.
Rylie raises her eyebrows, smirking at us and looking up at the ceiling as we make eye contact. Luke fixes his beanie, trying to keep the smile off his face. I quickly remove my arm from Sam's shoulders and scratch the back of my neck. Sam starts picking at her fingers again, keeping her head down. Rylie makes a 'Hmm' noise before she speaks again.
''Well, I don't know what 'this' is all about'' She starts, gesturing towards the Sam and I ''but I wanna do some bowling!'' Luke smiles at her attempt at getting rid of the awkwardness. I look away from the group for a second, trying to hide my embarrassment. Luke coughs, loudly, grabbing my attention again before he pats me on the shoulder and walks on after Rylie, towards the shoe counter. I clench my fists, turning to face Sam again, only resulting in the most awkward eye contact you could ever imagine. Even over the three years I have known her, it has never been this awkward between us.
''Um, we should probably got get our uhh shoes'' Sam states, pointing at the shoe counter with her thumb.
''Yeah, yeah'' I reply, too quickly.
I mentally facepalm myself as we make our way over to the shoe counter. What just happened.
