Plans were immediately being arranged by Irvin, Levi, and Hanji to retrieve Dr. Jaeger's Apple of Eden and possibly a codex from Eren's basment in Shiganshina. The next morning I had to sit down with Eren explain the situation. He had the right to know about his father after all and I was the only person who could tell him with complete understanding.

I crept into the boys' room, careful not to wake Armin, Connie and Jean. I sat down on Eren's bed and shook him lightly until he awoke.

"...G?" he said groggily and propped himself up against the headboard of his bed. "What's going on? Is something wrong?"

"No. I mean, well, yes, I suppose, but I'm sorry I woke you up so early," I said quietly, "It's going to be a  busy day for all of us and I really need to talk to you about your father while I have the chance."

"Oh yeah," he rubbed his eyes, "You stormed out of dinner yesterday without explaining anything."

"I predict your reaction to what I have to tell you will go one of two ways," I said, "Nonetheless, I'm unsure of how you'll feel."

"Only one way to find out, right? Spill it, G."

I breathed in deeply through my nose. Why was I so nervous of how he'd respond? "Eren. We-- I-- suspect that your father may have been a part of or may have been affiliated with the Order of Assassins. In fact, I'm almost certain he was."

Eren stared at me blankly, with his eyebrows pulled down as usual. In that moment of silence I tried to mentally prepare myself for what he would say. Would he understand? Would he be angry? Are you saying my dad is a murderer? He simply continued to stare at me.

"I get that this may be a lot to take in," I spoke finally, "And you might think I'm a fool--"

"No," he said, "It's not that. I trust you, G. I'm just... so sick of all these secrets he's kept from me." He balled up his fists tightly on his bed sheets, creating swirls of wrinkles in the fabric. "And leaving me to figure them out, like this is some kind of game..."

"Eren," said a voice from the next bed over. Armin had awoke and gotten out of his bed to sit on the other side of Eren, "You're not going to be figuring them out on your own. Mikasa and I will be there for you. And G."

"And me," someone sounded from behind me. It was Jean who was in the middle of buttoning his shirt. He walked over and knelt beside me, his arm resting on my thigh, "So what's the plan, Georgie?"

"Irvin and Levi have two things in mind," I answered, "We either give Shiganshina another shot, which I heard did not go well the first time." It was the expedition Petra died on. "Or we look for Dr. Jaeger himself. It would be ideal if we could do both."

Eren's eyes widened at the second suggestion, "You think you might know where he is?"

"Well, no. I think it's safe to assume he's in one of the inner districts but who knows. He's probably been moving around a lot in order to stay hidden. He'll be hard to catch."

"That may be our only choice," Armin said, "the chances of the King funding another expedition to Shiganshina, after what happened the last time, are slim."

"Alright, then," Jean stood up and stetched, "Let's do this."

"Shut up guys, I'm trying to sleep," Connie grumbled ans stirred. Jean hit him over the head with a pillow.

*~*~*~*~*

This is how things panned out: We were going to start out small. The Commander was still trying to arrange an expedition and in the mean time, a squad of six would investigate Dr. Jaeger's whereabouts in the districts of the inner walls. One would ask why not send out the whole Legion and obtain information more quickly? Asking random people would be an unnecessary waste of energy. Eren and I were the only ones who could ask, being the only two people in the Legion with ties to Assassins.
