"Wait. What??".
Asami bit her lip. She glanced over at Korra then at Mai. She had just told her the news. She and Korra were dating.
They were sitting in their usual spot, on the grass. The two women had sat Mai down and told her.
"Yeah", Asami said gently. "I like women and guys".
Mai stared at her mom. Mai had a confused look on her face.
"You do??", she asked. "You love ladies and men??".
Asami nodded. "Yeah and.......".
She looked at Korra. The princess was looking at Mai, a nervous look on her face. Asami decided to do something daring. She reached out and took her hand. Korra felt it and looked at their joined hands. She looked up at Asami.
Asami smiled and gave her hand a gentle squeeze. She looked at Mai who was staring at their hands with a shocked look on her face.
"Mommy", she said. "Why are you holding hands??".
"Guess", Korra spoke up.
It was quiet. Mai looked at their joined hands, thinking. Then she gasped. She smiled.
"Are you dating??", she asked excitedly.
Asami and Korra looked at eachother.
Asami nodded, looking at Mai.
"Yeah. She's my girlfriend".
Korra pursed her lips together nervously, waiting for an answer.
"We just wanted to tell you", Asami explained. "We didn't want to keep it a secret and lie to you so we decided that you had to know that we're girlfriend and girlfriend.... and we wanna know what you think".
Mai smiled. "Okay".
Wait what??.
"Wait what??".
Korra's jaw went slack. Asami was taken back. She didn't expect that sort of reply.
"Okay??. That's it??".
Mai nodded. "Yeah. I knew you liked her but I didn't think you would be dating Pocahontas".
Asami stared at Mai for a moment. It was quiet between the three.
"So you're okay with it??".
Mai nodded. "Yeah!!".
She looked at Korra and smiled.
"So you like my mommy??".
Korra nodded. "Yes I do".
Asami clapped excitedly.
"That means Mommy gets the princess that's she been wishing for!!".
Korra raised an eyebrow. She glanced at Asami who was giving Mai a look that said, "shut up".
Korra smirked. "She did??".
Mai nodded. "Yeah".
Korra nudged Asami gently.
"Then I guess I wasn't the only one praying to the spirits for love".
Asami looked at her. Korra giggled.
"So Mai", she said looking at the little girl. "How's school??".
Mai's face fell. She looked down. Korra frowned.
"What's wrong??".
Korra reached out and picked her up. She placed her on her lap.
"Is something going on in school that I need to know about??", Korra asked.
Mai looked away. She nodded.
