Chapter 2

Theos POV

(Flashback)

I sat in my room waiting for the ‘babysitter’ to come.

“Theo the babysitters here now so me and your dad are going!” mum shouted up the stairs, I ran out of my room towards the stairs,

“Please don’t go!” I started to cry

“Son, you’re a man and men don’t cry” my dad was one of those men who think men are superior, I cried more

“Mick, he’s only six!” my mum walked over to me and gave me a hug “we’ll be back in a couple of hours ok? Your sisters in bed so don’t go waking her” she gave me a kiss on my head, smiling she got up took dads hand then left closing the door behind her.

“Right Theo, how about we play a little game” the stranger’s voice came from behind me, I turned around to a man with dark brown hair and blue eyes, he wore a black jumper and dark blue jeans,

“No, please I don’t like that game!” the tears started to fall again,

“Oh but I do” he said with a smile as he threw me across the room, I hit the table and fell to the floor. It wasn’t the first time this has happened, its been going on or at least a year now,

“Please, please can we play a different game, this one hurts” I got to my feet, I ran towards my room but he stepped in front of me,

“Would you rather I play with your sister?” he had sly grin on his face

“Leave lexi alone!” I punched him in the belly repeatedly

“Now you understand the game” he looked down at me, I looked up at him. I felt a striking pain in my belly as he kicked me, I fell to the floor. He knelt down next to me,

“Now let’s play tag, you run and I’ll try and get you” he had a mocking smile on his face, I tried to get up, pain rushed through my body as I got to my feet, I took one step and fell.

“Alright I’ll give you a ten second head start” he laughed then started counting

“I got up and ran as fast as I could to my sisters room, it hurt more and more with every step I took, I eventually made it to her room, I rushed in picked her up then walked as fast as I could towards our secret room, it was like one of those little lifts inside the walls you find in old houses. I placed Lexi in then climbed in just as I shut the door I saw him come out of my room; I locked the doors so he couldn’t get to us. I pulled Lexi to my chest snuggling up to her so we could stay warm; she looked at me with her big brown eyes,

“It’s ok Lexi, were safe now” I planted a small kiss on her head.

(Five years later, a different flash back)

The head teacher came into my second lesson, by the look on his face I knew something bad has happened.  By the way he looked around the room and his eyes landed on me, that’s when I panicked, it was something to do with me. The teacher let leave the room, I collected my things and followed the head closely,

“Now, there is some really bad news to tell you” he started, we reached his office, then he continued “your sister is on her way over here, a teacher is going to take you to the hospital” my eyes were filled with tears. He continued “it’s your parents, they’ve been involved in a car crash, now I know this is a lot to take in as a twelve year old, but your sister will need you now more than ever, try and stay strong for her” I got up and walked out the door toward the schools front entrance, I spotted my sister, I enveloped her into a hug as she cried into my shoulder. The teacher guided us into her car. We were on her way to the hospital to see our parents for the last time.
