Chapter 6

Jaymes POV

"Jaymes? You ok, you seem a little… detached.” she stared at me with those brown eyes and I automatically felt self-conscious.

“Just thinking.”

“Thinking? Take it steady Jaymes, don’t hurt yourself.” I spun to where the voice had come from with an annoyed look on my face. Trust Theo to take the opportunity. There was an impish smile on his face. I tried to resist the urge to stick my tongue out at him like a five year old. There must have been an annoyed look on my face as his smile melted. “Aw, Jaymes come on, you know I was joking.”

“I know.” Doesn’t mean I can’t be annoyed with him.

“Then why do you look so annoyed?”

“You called my Mum, of course I’m annoyed. I’m not going you know, it was a pointless exercise. I will put up a fight.” I was repeating what I’d thought to myself earlier. He laughed.

“You? Fighting? Now that I would love to see.”

“You will. I’m leaving the second she gets here. You can’t stop me.”

“I’m pretty sure I could, I’m stronger than you. Do you need an example?” he came a step closer and I took one back at the same time.

“I’m good.” He didn’t listen to me. Instead he lunged at me and grabbed me in a tight bear hug. I could barely breath. This was obviously entertainingly Lexi as I could hear her laughter behind me. “Theo! Get off me!” I shouted.

“how about no?” I could almost hear him smiling, Lexi wasn’t the only one enjoying this. I started to struggle but he wouldn’t loosen his hold on me.

“How about yes???” I hissed through clenched teeth. “You’ve proved your point. You’re stronger than me, I can’t breathe. Theo please, let go…!” His grip loosened and I breathed in deeply. He still hadn’t totally let go of me, I noticed that he seemed to be hesitating, like he didn’t want to let go. “All the way.” I was still hissing accidentally. He let go of me completely and I was relieved. “Thank you.”

"Any time." he smiled again and annoyingly I smiled back.

"Aww. You two are so cute." Lexi said after a few silent moments. Right, that was awkward.

There was a short silence. Which Theo broke.

“Tristan wants to go camping tonight. He said we can all go. You two up for it?”

“Yeah, sure! How many tents?” Lexi asked.

“Three, but Luca insists he has one on his own.”

“Okay. I’ll go with Tristan and you two can go together! Give you more time to…um…connect.” she laughed.

I scowled, even though she was behind me.

“We’ll decide that later, Alexis.”

I stifled a giggle. Theo just saved me from an awkward moment.

“Jaymes, come on. I’ll show you round the rest of the house.”

My face went blank. Theo? Theo show me around? God knows what he’ll bring up in a conversation he’s bound to start.

“Yeah Jaymes! Go with him. I have better things to do anyway.”

“Come on, Jaymes.”

To my surprise, Theo grabbed my hand and dragged me down the hall. His hand was warm and soft against my palm. It made me want to make him turn around and - whoa! No way! I tried to shake that image from my head.
